Book Description
Johann Christoph Layrle (b.1710), possibly a son of Soloman Layrle, immigrated in 1736 from Germany to a German-speaking colony near Charleston, South Carolina. He taught a few years, then returned to Germany, and in 1754 immigrated again, this time (via Philadelphia) to Harpers Ferry, Virginia (later West Virginia). He married twice, moved to Culpeper County, Virginia, and in 1766 to Rowan County, North Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and elsewhere.

Book Description
On Friday, July 13, 1906, fourteen-year-old Addie Lyerly descended the stairs of her Barber Junction, N.C. home and found her parents and one younger sibling bludgeoned to death with the butt of an axe. Her little sister, also injured, was barely alive, and the house had been recently set on fire. It was immediately and conveniently assumed that 5 black or mulatto tenant farmers and the wife of one had committed the crimes. Without ever going to trial, two men and one boy were convicted by a mob, stirred up by a racist press, and lynched near the railroad tracks in Salisbury, North Carolina. It was less than a month after the original murders. Although the mystery of who killed the Lyerlys remained unsolved at the time the first edition of A Game Called Salisbury was printed, Bill and Rachel James' new book, The Man From the Train, has shed new light on this case, perhaps providing the evidence that will fully exonerate Nease Gillespie, John Gillespie and Jack Dillingham, the three who were lynched on August 6, 1906. In the words of Yale History Professor, Glenda E. Gilmore, A Game Called Salisbury "pushes into the white South's darkest secrets" and exposes "the limits of justice under white supremacy."

Book Description
People think they know about “The South”. Decades of smiling faces with charming drawls in movies and television have given a false sense of reality. The truth is often surprising if not outright shocking. This series of books seeks to explain the history of the South by digging into the source of common phrases and legends. Some definite liberties are taken from time to time as new urban legends are created within these pages. A must have for anyone who has never been down South, one can gain a glimpse behind the curtain forged by centuries of secrecy. A must have for anyone who lives in the South, one can understand traditions handed down by generations with the origin obscured, sometimes by deterioration and sometimes by intention. In this Volume we reveal the reality behind fables with tragic consequences involving Indian tribes, slavery, and the lesser-known cola wars during the Prohibition era. All presented for what has not been seen and perhaps what should never be seen.
