The Letters of Jesus Lenten Lectures
Author: Joseph A. Seiss
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781330088753
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 347
Book Description
Excerpt from The Letters of Jesus Lenten Lectures The Lectures here following; were prepared for the author's week-day appointments during Lent. Direct practical impression, and not critical elaboration, was the controlling aim in their composition. As they were preached in different years, some repetitions of thought occur in them which might have been eliminated to the advantage of their literary finish; but as the same things recur in the text, and differ in the form in which they reappear in the Lectures, it has been concluded to leave ail as originally delivered. Lent is by general consent a season arranged by the Church for the calling of its members to a special sobering of their minds for serious meditation upon their situation with regard to spiritual things. It is a time to call to mind the presence and inspection of God, His displeasure with sin, and how we are to secure salvation from it.
