Phantom Lady Archives vol 2 (1947 - 1949)
Author: Matt Baker
Publisher: John Davies
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 367
Book Description
Phantom Lady featured the character of Sandra Knight, aka, the Phantom Lady, a character formerly published by Quality Comics. This series continus the numbering sequence from Wotalife Comics and continues as My Love Secret following issue #23. Phantom Lady appeared in Police Comics #1 to 23, and Feature Comics #69-71, where she teamed up with Spider-Widow. Phantom Lady's more modest (!) Quality Comics lookPhantom Lady then jumped ship from Quality, when the (now simply) Iger Studio recostumed her for use by Fox Features Syndicate, who gave the character her own title, Phantom Lady, which lasted from #1 (August, 1947) to #26 (April 1949). She also guested in All-Top Comics #8 to #15. Shortly afterwards, Fox went bust. Star Comics bought the rights to the Fox characters, and had Phantom lady turn up in a couple of their comics, then Farrell Publications got hold of her, and produced four issues of their own Phantom Lady series (unlike many of the characters they revived from other companies, they kept both costume and true identity unchanged). Eventually Charlton bought up most of the Fox characters, presumably including Phantom Lady. This Volume covers Phantom Lady adventures from 1947 - 1949 Approx 365 pages

Memories of Childhood
Author: Martin Nicholson
Publisher: Lulu.com
ISBN: 1470960427
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 192
Book Description
Martin Nicholson was born in 1937 in Rio de Janeiro, where his father was working for Shell. He had sailed across the Atlantic twice before he was three years old, the second time just days after the start of the Second World War when the family returned to South America to live near Buenos Aires in Argentina. They returned to England in 1946 to experience the realities of 'austerity Britain' of the 1950s. They faced the bitter winter of 1946-1947 in Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham, then moved to Twickenham, south west London, where they made their first real home. Like many middle class English boys of that era he went through the discipline of boarding school, in Swanage on the south coast, and at Oundle School, Peterborough. This book - the first of a projected series of four volumes that will take his memoirs up to retirement from the Diplomatic Service in 1997 - tells the story of a childhood constantly on the move, but always in the bosom of a secure and loving family - his parents and three siblings.

Author: William N Hess
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1782008896
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 129
Book Description
'Like The Long Reach, Down to Earth is a message from the battle at its height, told in their own words by the men who fight' - this is how Brig-Gen Francis Griswold, VIII Fighter Command, ends his introduction to this book. His official endorsement reveals just how important a document Down to Earth was to the teaching of tyro fighter pilots heading for action in the ETO. More leading aces were lost to flak whilst ground strafing than to German fighters. In this book William Hess has included biographies of all the pilots that originally contributed to this work back in 1943-44.

Book Description
From the reviews of Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations in Science and Engineering: * "The book by Lapidus and Pinder is a very comprehensive, even exhaustive, survey of the subject . . . [It] is unique in that it covers equally finite difference and finite element methods."-Burrelle's. * "The authors have selected an elementary (but not simplistic) mode of presentation. Many different computational schemes are described in great detail . . . Numerous practical examples and applications are described from beginning to the end, often with calculated results given."-Mathematics of Computing. * "This volume . . . devotes its considerable number of pages to lucid developments of the methods [for solving partial differential equations] . . . the writing is very polished and I found it a pleasure to read!"-Mathematics of Computation Of related interest . . .NUMERICAL ANALYSIS FOR APPLIED SCIENCE Myron B. Allen and Eli L. Isaacson. A modern, practical look at numerical analysis, this book guides readers through a broad selection of numerical methods, implementation, and basic theoretical results, with an emphasis on methods used in scientific computation involving differential equations. 1997 (0-471-55266-6) 512 pp. APPLIED MATHEMATICS Second Edition, J. David Logan. Presenting an easily accessible treatment of mathematical methods for scientists and engineers, this acclaimed work covers fluid mechanics and calculus of variations as well as more modern methods-dimensional analysis and scaling, nonlinear wave propagation, bifurcation, and singular perturbation. 1996 (0-471-16513-1) 496 pp.
