Book Description
Originally published in 1912 in England, this work by the American journalists Ruth & Reginald Wright Kauffman reflects their belief as Marxists that the Mormon church was a victim of a capitalist society. Their intention was to summarize the widespread anti-Mormon literature that appeared in the American press during the late 19th & early 20th centuries. They believed that economic forces were primary in society & that capitalism was an unethical system of compulsion & domination. Their exploration of how the true nature of a capitalistic system was revealed in its impact on the history of Mormonism brought an unprecedented perspective to bear on the church.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter Day Saints: A Study of the Mormons in the Light of Economic Conditons The purpose of this book is to give to British readers an account, written by citizens of the United States, of the Mormons, their faith, their marriage-system, their history, their political influence, and their economics, and to find and set forth the causes for all these. Heretofore, so far as we have been able to learn, all the really important writing that has been done about the Latter Day Saints has confined itself to only one or other single phase - or, more often than not, only a small part of a single phase - of this people, whose activities are, of course, interdependent. Thus, although we have made free use of such writings and in their various specialities generally commend them, we realise that David Utter's interest was largely in the theology of Mormonism, Burton J. Hendrick's in the revival of Mormon polygamy, Frank J. Cannon sin Mormon politics, Murray Schick's and Alfred Henry Lewis's in Mormon economics and finance, whereas the question of the Mormons' attitude towards the United States Government was the concern of the transcript of certain proceedings in the Utah District Court so well made by Mr Henry G. M'Millan. Our endeavour has therefore been to present a complete, though brief, picture of a people that, because of their peculiar position in modern life, justify some attention. Book Description
Joseph Smith's monumental work, 'History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,' is a comprehensive seven-volume series that delves into the origins and early history of the Mormon religion. Written in a straightforward and chronological style, the book provides a detailed account of the key events, revelations, and challenges faced by the early leaders of the Church. Smith's writing is marked by his deep religious faith and his desire to document the history of his faith community for future generations. The book not only serves as a primary source for Mormon history but also sheds light on the religious and social context of 19th-century America. Each volume is filled with primary sources, personal accounts, and doctrinal teachings, making it a valuable resource for scholars of American religious history. Joseph Smith, as the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, wrote this comprehensive history to provide a record of the divine guidance and challenges faced by the early leaders of the Church. Smith's personal experiences, religious vision, and dedication to his faith are evident in the meticulous detail and spiritual insights found throughout the series. Written with a sense of mission and purpose, 'History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' stands as a testament to Smith's belief in the importance of recording and preserving the history of his religious community. I highly recommend this seven-volume edition to readers interested in Mormon history, American religious movements, and the foundational texts of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
