Land Capability Classification for Forest Ecosystems in the Oil Sands Region -- Rev. Ed
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 93
Book Description
The land classification system presented in this document is used to evaluate pre- and post-disturbance land capability for forest production. It is intended to aid in planning soil handling procedures and measuring land capability in the oil sands region of Alberta where surface disturbances are caused by oil sand mining, transportation, utilities, and pipeline corridors. Classification system development, assumptions, and definitions are first presented and the five land capability classes and associated sub-classes are outlined. Section 3 reviews soil inventory requirements for using the classification system, including requirements for the soil survey, soil sampling, and analyses. Sections 4 and 5 describe the soil- and landscape-related factors used in the classification. Section 6 briefly notes the importance of knowing the ecoregion of the site of interest. The final section contains forms used in the field application of the system. Appendices include information on soil moisture relationships, soil chemical properties, soil capability and the soil productivity relationship, as well as examples of soil capability profiles and a glossary.
