Japanese Pan-Asianism and the Philippines from the Late Nineteenth Century to the End of World War II
Author: Sven Matthiessen
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004305726
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 255
Book Description
In Japanese Pan-Asianism and the Philippines from the Late 19th Century to the End of World War II – Going to the Philippines Is Like Coming Home? Sven Matthiessen examines the development of Japanese Pan-Asianism and the perception of the Philippines within this ideology. Due to the archipelago’s previous colonisation by Spain and the US the Philippines was a special case among the Japanese occupied territories during the war. Matthiessen convincingly proves that the widespread pro-Americanism among the Philippine population made it impossible for Japanese administrators to implement a pan-Asianist ideology that centred on a 'return to Asian values'. The expectation among some Japanese Pan-Asianists that ‘going to the Philippines was like coming home’ was never fulfilled.

Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 182
Book Description
Dare and Live is a demonstration of raw courage in the face of overwhelming odds against the superior military power of the Imperial Japanese Forces in Negros Islands, Philippines after the United States Armed Forces in the Philippines lost in the battles of Bataan and Corrigedor Islands. M/Sgt. Jorge G. Herrera, Jr. did not surrender to the Japanese Army in Negros Islands, instead he gathered 3 Filipinos and they started the recruitment and training of other Guerrilla Soldiers. He established a Bivouac at the mountain sides of Negros Islands. He equipped his hideout with telephone communication for fast intelligence. He staged many ambushes against the Japanese Soldiers. The Japanese Army hired a female Filipino and sent her on a secret mission of setting up an entrapment for the capture of M/Sgt. Jorge G. Herrera, Jr. It was strange how Jorge G. Herrera, Jr. discovered the plot of the Japanese Army against him. He eluded the Japanese Army dragnet. M/Sgt. Jorge G. Herrera, Jr. must have been the only Filipino Guerrilla Leader who captured, alive, 21 Japanese Soldiers in an ambush encounter. The Philippine Story
Author: David Bernstein
Publisher: Pickle Partners Publishing
ISBN: 1789122880
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 398
Book Description
Published a year after the Philippines proclaimed independence in July 1946, the chief permanent value of this book lies in its survey of the history of the American experiment in the Philippines. The Philippine Story is a concise, inclusive analysis of the background, failure, achievements and implications of the American experiment in the Philippines, from Magellan to the present post-war era. The author, David Bernstein, sketches in an overall impression: geography, education, religion, anthropology, national characteristics, and so on. He then goes on to consider each major phase of island history, the acquiescent period of Spanish rule, the era of revolt with Rizal as its inspiration and later national hero, the transition to American rule and the rapid progress in education and social and economic justice under successive Governors-General. The final section deals with the war years and the new republic. An invaluable read that challenges America’s policies.
