Book Description
"Indonesia is one of the few countries that came through the global economic crisis in 2008-09 with positive economic growth. Despite some recorded positive domestic economic performances, Indonesia faces new challenges as its economy keeps growing and the global economy remains uncertain. A new economic development paradigm is needed to overcome old problems (poverty and unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, corruption, a complex regulatory environment, and unequal resource distribution among regions) with global market opportunities. This book provides a new perspective on how Indonesian’s economic policies should be developed by considering its past and future challenges." - Firmanzah, Professor of Economics and Dean of Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia "Aris Ananta, Muljana Soekarni and Sjamsul Arifin gather excellent researchers and practitioners to discuss important economic policy issues for Indonesia today. They discuss monetary and fiscal policies and real economic sector issues based not only on theoretical analysis but also on their day-to-day experience in economic management. By reviewing Indonesia's economic policy reform and subsequent Asian financial crisis and sub-prime loan crisis, the authors present a new economic development paradigm and explore economic strategy and policies for the new era. The book offers many timely lessons from history, as well as the real policy experiences of the authors, and guides readers in exploring economic policies under the globalized world economy. This book is very useful for both practitioners and researchers." - Masaaki Komatsu, Professor of Economics, Hiroshima University

Book Description
It is now nearly a decade since OUP published The Indonesian Economy during the Soeharto Era, edited by Anne Booth and Peter McCawley - the first comprehensive assessment of economic policy-making in the New Order period. At that time, Indonesia was riding the crest of the oil boom, and although it was clear that world oil prices were unlikely to remain at the level prevailing in 1981, it was far from clear how the Indonesian economy would adjust to a sharp fall. In the event, economic policy-makers in Indonesia have embarked on a process of economic restructuring during the 1980s which is still continuing, and which is intended to lay the foundations for the country's transformation into a dynamic industrial economy in the twenty-first century. This book assesses the process of economic restructuring, and its implications for the country's future economic development. It is divided into three broad parts: the first examines monetary, fiscal, and balance of payments policies; the second assesses the performance of crucial economic sectors, including agriculture, industry, transport, and trade; the third examines the implications of economic restructuring and deregulation policies for employment, the distribution of income, living standards, and regional development. An overview chapter explores the lessons which the Indonesian experience has to offer other developing economies embarking on the long and difficult process of policy reform.

Book Description
Few countries have experienced such sharply fluctuating fortunes as Indonesia. This book offers a balanced analysis, evaluation and explanation of Indonesia's economic performance, from 1967. Hal Hill highlights Indonesia's successes during this period - rapid industrialisation, major achievements in the food crop sector and the adoption, from the mid-1980s, of outward-looking policies. He also draws attention to the challenges facing the country, including the rocky path towards economic reform, the large external debt, regional and ethnic disparities, and the need for a transparent and predictable policy environment. In this second edition, an extended postscript takes the story through the dramatic turnaround and political and economic crises since 1997, including the downfall of Soeharto.

Book Description
Scientific Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Economics - Economic Cycle and Growth, University of Syiah Kuala, course: Economics, language: English, abstract: For decades media as well as citizens frequently listen to the voice of those struggling under what it is called as economics injustice. The story of twenty-two years top and down resources exploitation in Papua, starting from Scott Paper in 1988 until mega development project of MIFEE (The Merauke Integrated Food and Energy Estate) right now, has caused many severe problems, including human right abuses, environmental devastation and enduring poverty for indigenous people while creating prosperity for immigrant workers. Another story of corruption and gratification from President Soeharto’s era until the end of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s era, covering almost all elements of political elites, ministers, governors, regents and even the prosecutors has led to the crisis of public trust towards the governments. The other story of human trafficking of Indonesian woman labors in Arab world and the high rate of unemployment, 5.7 % (BPS,2014), which is the highest after Myanmar and Philippine among ASEAN countries makes Indonesia as one of the country with a big problem of job opportunity and human resources quality. Such these stories are in no way boosting, rather obstructing Indonesian economy. Consequently, the breakthrough of new transitional government is obviously needed to tackle all these issues, addressing Indonesian economic growth in the middle of emerging market, especially under the transformation of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, in order to provide economic justice and prosperity for all its citizens. Indeed, the new government cannot work alone to cover 240 million citizens within 34 provinces. It needs the coordination and synergy from all parties, particularly the one having the highest authority and responsibility, government Institutions.
