Book Description
Brand-new format making its debut! Introducing a new kawaii property “The Imaginary Aquarium,” a hugely popular brand with Japanese kids and teens! The Imaginary Aquarium is comprised of characters that are a combination of land animals and sea creatures, which is spot-on with the current U.S. publishing trend of mash-up characters. It was created by Kamio Japan, one of the top stationery companies in the country, and gained exposure through Gakken’s tween fashion magazines as well as five books. As a result of Kamio’s partnership with Takara Tomy Arts, The Imaginary Aquarium has become a merchandised brand, with characters that are featured in toys and stationery. What is kawaii? The concept of kawaii, Japan’s culture of cuteness, started in the ‘70s and made its way to the US in 1976 with Sanrio’s Hello Kitty. Since then, the US has seen continued success with such kawaii properties as Pokemon and more recently, Gudetama. The culture of kawaii is not just about being cute: it is pushing away serious things like business and politics, and embracing a more laid-back lifestyle. Couldn’t we all use more of that? This is no ordinary aquarium! At The Imaginary Aquarium, all the creatures are mash-ups of land and sea animals. Packaged with 8 stackable fat crayons that are perfect for little hands to grip, this activity kit features 120 pages of favorite age-appropriate activities like mazes, spot-the-differences, and dot-to-dot. Meet all The Imaginary Aquarium friends: Budgiseal= budgie bird + fur seal, Bunnyguin=bunny + penguin, Eelpuppy=dog + eel, Elephin= elephant + dolphin, Jellybear=jellyfish + bear, Kangalion=kangaroo + sea lion, Kittyshark=cat + shark, Li'l Bunnyguin=baby bunny + penguin, Octopiggy=octopus + pig, Sealster=hamster + seal, Squidhog=squid + hog, Squiglet=baby squid + hog, Squotter=squirrel + otter, Sunbra=zebra + sunfish, Turwolf=turtle + wolf, and more!

This activity book features 75 puffy stickers and over 300 regular stickers for many hours of fun with Mochi Mochi Panda! Each kit includes stickering activities and favorite age-appropriate activities like mazes, spot-the-differences, and dot-to-dot. Introducing a new kawaii property “Mochi Mochi Panda,” a hugely popular brand with Japanese kids and teens! It was created by Kamio Japan, one of the top stationery companies in the country, and gained exposure through Gakken’s tween fashion magazines as well as 16 books. Now the brand has been licensed to over 50 licensees, who have featured it on towels, toys, accessories and more. Mochi Mochi Panda is a panda-like creature that is squishy like mochi (rice cake). This is not a panda, not a rice cake, nor a marshmallow. Much like the kawaii character Gudetama, the world of Mochi Mochi Panda is about being laid-back and relaxed. Jumbo Mochi Mochi Panda can pull off pieces of himself to create lots and lots of Tiny Mochi Mochi Pandas. You'll meet Idol Panda, Aloha Panda, Princess Panda, Chic Panda, Rainbow Panda, Zombie Panda, and lots of other Tiny Pandas! What is kawaii? Book Description
Horace G. Danner’s A Thesaurus of English Word Roots is a compendium of the most-used word roots of the English language. As Timothy B. Noone notes in his foreword: “Dr. Danner’s book allows you not only to build up your passive English vocabulary, resulting in word recognition knowledge, but also gives you the rudiments for developing your active English vocabulary, making it possible to infer the meaning of words with which you are not yet acquainted. Your knowledge can now expand and will do so exponentially as your awareness of the roots in English words and your corresponding ability to decode unfamiliar words grows apace. This is the beginning of a fine mental linguistic library: so enjoy!” In A Thesaurus of English Word Roots, all word roots are listed alphabetically, along with the Greek or Latin words from which they derive, together with the roots’ original meanings. If the current meaning of an individual root differs from the original meaning, that is listed in a separate column. In the examples column, the words which contain the root are then listed, starting with their prefixes, for example, dysacousia, hyperacousia. These root-starting terms then are followed by terms where the root falls behind the word, e.g., acouesthesia and acoumeter. These words are followed by words where the root falls in the middle or the end, as in such terms as bradyacusia and odynacusis.. In this manner, A Thesaurus of English Word Roots places the word in as many word families as there are elements in the word. This work will interest linguists and philologists and anyone interested in the etymological aspects of English language.

Book Description
This book takes up issues of violence in the lives of college students and looks for possibilities of teaching composition as an act of peace making. Through a variety of writings, the book illustrates students' experiences on the city streets of New York and in the small mining and steel towns of western Pennsylvania. One section of the book reports on a project that linked one author/educator's (Hurlbert) research writing class and the other author/educator's (Blitz) freshman composition II class. In the semester-long project, the classes researched and wrote about their own neighborhoods and the neighborhoods of their interstate partners. The book states that these two groups of students taught each other about the places in which they live and the ways in which they live there, and in many cases, what each learned about the other was "shocking." It also shares with the reader letters in which the two author/educators reflect upon their work as teachers, in an effort to understand the personal and cultural implications of what students write and say. (Contains 101 references.) (NKA).
