Book Description
Gifts, a book in the Multiage Differentiated Curriculum Kit for Grades 1-3, gives students the opportunity to discover extrinsic and intrinsic gifts available to them in their everyday lives. The books in Prufrock's new Differentiated Curriculum Kits employ a differentiated, integrated curriculum based on broad themes. This all-in-one curriculum helps teachers save planning time, ensure compliance with national standards, and most importantly, pique their students' natural excitement and interest in discovery. By participating in the wide variety of activities in the Multiage Differentiated Curriculum Kit for Grades 1-3, students will discover the gifts around them and gain a lifelong desire to learn. Sentimental, personal, historical, symbolic, endangered, and fragile gifts are explored. Students also will learn the concept of supply and demand when assessing value or worth. The process and science of the preservation of national treasures also is investigated by students. From Egyptian pharaohs to poor farmers, students will find that everyone has gifts to offer. Gifts, along with the other books in the Multiage Differentiated Curriculum Kit for Grades 1-3 (Discoveries, Faces, Cycles, and Symbols), makes teaching advanced learners easier! Grades 1-3 This curriculum unit makes use of the following great children's literature books: Tutankhamen's Gift by Robert Sabuda; Song and Dance Man by Karen Ackerman; Alejandro's Gift by Richard E. Albert; This is Our Earth by Laura Lee Benson; The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein; The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams; Aunt Claire's Yellow Beehive Hair by Deborah Blumenthal; The Pain and the Great One by Judy Blume; and The Great Trash Bash by Loreen Leedy.

And we recognize how right she is today. Yet the voters who boosted Trump all the way to the White House have been a permanent part of our American fabric, argues Isenberg. The wretched and landless poor have existed from the time of the earliest British colonial settlement to today's hillbillies. They were alternately known as “waste people,” “offals,” “rubbish,” “lazy lubbers,” and “crackers.” By the 1850s, the downtrodden included so-called “clay eaters” and “sandhillers,” known for prematurely aged children distinguished by their yellowish skin, ragged clothing, and listless minds. Surveying political rhetoric and policy, popular literature and scientific theories over four hundred years, Isenberg upends assumptions about America’s supposedly class-free society––where liberty and hard work were meant to ensure real social mobility. Poor whites were central to the rise of the Republican Party in the early nineteenth century, and the Civil War itself was fought over class issues nearly as much as it was fought over slavery. Reconstruction pitted poor white trash against newly freed slaves, which factored in the rise of eugenics–-a widely popular movement embraced by Theodore Roosevelt that targeted poor whites for sterilization. These poor were at the heart of New Deal reforms and LBJ’s Great Society; they haunt us in reality TV shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty. Marginalized as a class, white trash have always been at or near the center of major political debates over the character of the American identity. We acknowledge racial injustice as an ugly stain on our nation’s history. With Isenberg’s landmark book, we will have to face the truth about the enduring, malevolent nature of class as well.

Book Description
Hallefrickinlujah, it’s here--your ultimate party-planning guide. Forget the stuffy dinner conversations. And the plates of cheese. And the wine (unless it’s boxed, or bottled three-buck Chuck). It’s time to tap into a powder keg of debauchery. Brought to you by Connor and Dominic, founders of The 5th Year and scholars in the art of the party, this book serves up dozens of out-of-the-box ideas, along with advice on throwing a successful shindig and plenty of suggestions on how to take the shenanigans to the next level. You’ll find ridiculously fun ways to get your drink on, like . . . Tour de Franzia: Spandex-clad partiers chant, ?Go, go, go? as their wine-mouthed friends race through boxes of the classy stuff. Brownbag Surprise: Guests have to MacGyver their own costumes out of whatever’s inside the brownbag they’re given. Fake Wake: It’s like a real Irish wake--except even the stiff’s drunk. Donkey Punch Dinner Party: Where placing your Cleveland Steamer Meatballs between a bowl of Dirty Sanchez Seven-Layer Dip and a tray of Dutch Oven Biscuits isn’t out of place. So ditch the popped-collar polos and wayfarers and move on from the played-out ’80s theme. It’s time to try something new. And as entertaining as it is instructive, this book is destined to become your gospel whenever you’re looking for a good time. The party’s on.
