Book Description
Excerpt from The Geological Record for 1880-1884 (Inclusive), Vol. 1: A List of Publications on Geology, Mineralogy, and Paleontology Published During Those Years; Together With Certain References Omitted From Previous Volumes; Stratigraphical and Descriptive Geology Tee present work brings the geological record up to the end of 1884, and for its compilation more than 200 publications have been consulted over and above those consulted for record ing work up to and including 1879. During the early part of the work assistance was received from those Contributors whose names are given on p. Vi; but the task of completing the volumes has mainly fallen upon C. Davies sherborn. The Second Volume is partly in type, and will be ready by the end of the year. Three alterations have been made in this issue of the Record. Titles only are given; Physical Geology will all be included under one heading instead of three as heretofore; Supplements are abolished, titles omitted from previous years appearing in the main text. An important contribution of such omissions has been supplied by Mr. C. Davison. As in previous volumes, some titles are given with only a place of publication. They come, undoubtedly, in many instances, from the Papers of some Society whose volumes do not find a place in London Libraries, and it has been found impossible to do more than record their existence. Our thanks are due to Messrs. Taylor and francis for the rapid way in which they have completed this Volume.
