Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 259
Book Description
Justin Imperiale is running his Kingdoms. He has also found a way to create interstellar Gates that allow a person to walk from planet to planet. Suddenly, an enormous sea creature is sighted off of his Kingdom of The Islands. Justin has to figure a way to deal with the beast. Justin then figures a way to take revenge on those who dumped the sea beast in Corin. His Kingdom of Mesodania is attacked by revolutionaries, led by one who calls himself the True Prophet. Justin finds a way to fight back, with model airplanes. He then discovers that the Mesodanian revolutionaries were armed by the North Continent nation of Pors. Justin then figures a way to take revenge on those who armed the revolutionaries. Justin is then confronted by a young lady with paranormal powers. The incident leads him to realize that Arvion is still after him and leads to the discovery of spies. The nation of Ruthenia provides most of the natural gas, used to heat homes and generate electricity, in the Old World North Continent nations. Suddenly, Ruthenia wants to double the price of their natural gas. Justin figures a way to provide replacement natural gas, for his North Continent Kingdoms. However, if he can figure out how to supply the other North Continent nations, he can probably acquire several more North Continent Kingdoms, in return for solving the problem. Justin does find a source for natural gas, but lacks a way to get to the source. However, he thinks back to something that Arvion, his enemy, does and just maybe Justin can figure out how to do the same thing. Any solution will involve the understanding of higher dimensional spaces, above the three physical spaces, in which the people of Corin live. Along the way, Justin figures out how to set up a perfect prison. His solution is cheap and escape proof. However, he then has to deal with pipeline bandits. One night, Justin is again visited by a ghost, or at least a creature who lives in higher dimensional space. The ghost reviews some of what Justin has done and tells Justin that some of the powerful beings who live in higher dimensional space are mot too happy with him.

Chance and the Sovereignty of God
Author: Vern S. Poythress
Publisher: Crossway
ISBN: 1433536986
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 370
Book Description
What if all events—big and small, good and bad—are governed by more than just blind chance? What if they are governed by God? In this theologically informed and philosophically nuanced introduction to the study of probability and chance, Vern Poythress argues that all events—including the seemingly random or accidental—fall under God's watchful gaze and are part of his eternal plan. Poythress tackles questions related to everything from natural disasters to the roll of the dice, explaining how God's sovereignty functions as the lens through which we study subjects such as science, mathematics, modern physics, evolutionary biology, human choice, and gambling. Comprehensive in its scope, this book lays the theistic foundation for our scientific assumptions about the world while addressing personal questions about the meaning and significance of everyday events.

Young Samuel Johnson and his dachshund, Boswell, are trying to show initiative by trick-or-treating a full three days before Halloween, which is how they come to witness strange goings-on at 666 Crowley Road. The gates to Hell. And there are some pretty terrifying beings just itching to get out. . . . Bursting with imagination and impossible to put down, New York Times bestselling author John Connolly’s "wholly original" (People) and "refreshing" (San Francisco Chronicle) novel is about the pull between good and evil, physics and fantasy. The Closing of the Gates
Author: Rabbi Lawrence A. Hoffman, PhD
Publisher: Turner Publishing Company
ISBN: 1684422213
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 266
Book Description
N’ilah, “the closing of the gates” is, in many ways, the most anticipated worship service in the entire Jewish calendar. Coming at the end of the 24-hour fast that characterizes Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement), it symbolizes the days of old when the gates of the ancient Temple closed at last, and with them, the last chance for prayers of atonement and reconciliation with God and with others. Nowadays, the synagogue service that replaced the Temple cult marks the occasion with heightened fervor: the only time all year when the gates of the ark that houses the Torah scroll remain open throughout the service; telltale melodies accompany the occasion; a final blast of the shofar (the ram’s horn) symbolizes the end of the fast and the new beginning that follows; special prayers celebrate the human capacity to create a life that matters beyond our own mortality -- and the presence of God who “reaches out a hand” to invite us into the new Jewish year that N’ilah’s final shofar blast inaugurates. All of this is the topic for volume eight in “Prayers of Awe,” the series devoted to exploring the depth of the Jewish High Holy Days. As with prior volumes, this one too comes with introductory essays on the history, theology, and deeper meaning behind the prayer experience. It then assembles some 40 short and accessible essays designed to unlock the mystery and depth of the occasion. Authors come from all walks of life – clergy and laypeople, scholars and artists, men and women across the generations – and from seven countries (Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Israel, the UK and USA). What music appreciation is to classical music, this series on prayer is to Jewish worship. This volume, in particular, explores Judaism’s timeless message of divine purpose and the ongoing search for meaning in a world of human frailty but also promise.

Shaking the Gates of Hell
Author: John Archibald
Publisher: Knopf
ISBN: 0525658114
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 321
Book Description
On growing up in the American South of the 1960s—an all-American white boy—son of a long line of Methodist preachers, in the midst of the civil rights revolution, and discovering the culpability of silence within the church. By the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and columnist for The Birmingham News. "My dad was a Methodist preacher and his dad was a Methodist preacher," writes John Archibald. "It goes all the way back on both sides of my family. When I am at my best, I think it comes from that sermon place." Everything Archibald knows and believes about life is "refracted through the stained glass of the Southern church. It had everything to do with people. And fairness. And compassion." In Shaking the Gates of Hell, Archibald asks: Can a good person remain silent in the face of discrimination and horror, and still be a good person? Archibald had seen his father, the Rev. Robert L. Archibald, Jr., the son and grandson of Methodist preachers, as a moral authority, a moderate and a moderating force during the racial turbulence of the '60s, a loving and dependable parent, a forgiving and attentive minister, a man many Alabamians came to see as a saint. But was that enough? Even though Archibald grew up in Alabama in the heart of the civil rights movement, he could recall few words about racial rights or wrongs from his father's pulpit at a time the South seethed, and this began to haunt him. In this moving and powerful book, Archibald writes of his complex search, and of the conspiracy of silence his father faced in the South, in the Methodist Church and in the greater Christian church. Those who spoke too loudly were punished, or banished, or worse. Archibald's father was warned to guard his words on issues of race to protect his family, and he did. He spoke to his flock in the safety of parable, and trusted in the goodness of others, even when they earned none of it, rising through the ranks of the Methodist Church, and teaching his family lessons in kindness and humanity, and devotion to nature and the Earth. Archibald writes of this difficult, at times uncomfortable, reckoning with his past in this unadorned, affecting book of growth and evolution.

In "Dark Gatekeeper: Endings and Beginnings", a weary traveler finally reaches the Dark Gate. This mysterious Gate serves as the boundary between the known and the unknown. The one who watches over this Gate challenges the traveler. Does the wandering one seek the end of the story? Or the beginning of a new one? In "Gatekeeper Lecata: Rising Tide", a forensic scientist leads a comfortable life within a cutting-edge research laboratory. That is, until one minor discovery sends her entire world into a tailspin. As the danger rises and time runs short, Ophelia Ulliard finds herself on the run from alien forces that want her and her loved ones dead. But, why are the aliens willing to destroy her entire lab just to get to her? And what does this all have to do with the unknown crystal she was given so many years ago? In "Gatekeeper Trimas: Breaking Away", a high school Senior struggles with navigating social cliques, crushes, and the impending graduation. While most would look forward to this as their transition into adulthood, for Brittany Thornton, it's a never-ending nightmare. On the world of Trimas, graduation means moving into a phase of life where all is pre-determined. Whom you'll marry, what job you'll have, and where you'll live. That is the way of the Eternal Masquerade. A way of life Brittany wants nothing to do with. As the clock ticks to her confinement, Brittany must choose to surrender to the will of others, or defy them and fight for a life of freedom. This book also includes a prelude to the next story, "A Distant Thunder". As situations intensify on Lecata and Trimas, a whispered prayer is made to an ancient God. The answer, is a bolt of lightning and the return of a God's favorite servant. What will happen when all of these forces collide? Only one thing is for certain, everything is about to change.
