Book Description
No Test Without a Testimony I would like to share some experiences that brought me closer than I had ever imagined to God. I would like to take this opportunity to show you how grief makes God clearer. Throughout this book I hope you share in the knowledge and experience that I gained from the collapse of the entirety of my world. In 2015 death knocked on my door once again. I felt so hopeless and despondent. it felt new. Like I had never lost anyone before even though I had. The beauty of it all is, l experienced Gods grace and mercy through it all. When David said, Goodness and mercy will follow me, he was right. In my struggle with grief, I learned to let go and allow the peace of God to take over my bleeding heart. Pain and sorrow were real, and no one could bear the weight of grief alone and survive. I couldnt carry my loss alone; l had to depend on God and his presence. I let him in my life, and it was like having a friend walking with me through a dark and dangerous tunnel. He carried me through a broken heart, through streams of tears and fear, and then through a safe haven of peace and joy. We walked together on the path to recovery while l talked with him and he talked back to me. I grew to trust him and became mature and able to love him through all the seasons of life. I know without a shadow of doubt that in my time of sorrow, he was there to comfort me and to lift my soul. I hope to comfort you as l share with you what has worked for me.

Book Description
That an unknown manuscript by C. S. Lewis should suddenly appear two decades after his death is remarkable. That it turns out to be a version of a previously published Lewis short story which some have accused of being a forgery, makes it a mystery. C. S. Lewis's "Light" manuscript appeared out of nowhere in 1985 after a different version of the story was published in 1977. Could "Light" be the final version of that story, the missing polished text which should have been published all along? And does it disprove or inflame the accusations of forgery? Charlie W. Starr explores the questions and reveals the truth that what Lewis scholars have previously believed about the story's origins is largely inaccurate, and that the insights into Lewis's thinking which "Light" reveals provide a new key to understanding some of Lewis's most profound ideas. "As literary journalism, both investigative and critical, it is top shelf." James Como, author of Remembering C. S. Lewis "Starr's book explores a vitally important theme in Lewis's work - light." Will Vaus, author of Speaking of Jack: A C. S. Lewis Discussion Guide "Starr has done us all a great service ... I can't recommend this book highly enough." Adam Barkman, author of C. S. Lewis and Philosophy as a Way of Life "Starr shines a new and illuminating light on one of Lewis's most intriguing stories." Michael Ward, author of Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C. S. Lewis Charlie W. Starr is professor of English and Humanities at Kentucky Christian University.

Book Description
With a powerful introduction by Ross Gay and a moving afterword by Sidney Clifton, this special anniversary edition of The Book of Light offers new meditations and insights on one of the most beloved voices of the 20th century. Though The Book of Light opens with thirty-nine names for light, we soon learn the most meaningful name is Lucille—daughter, mother, proud Black woman. Known for her ability to convey multitudes in few words, Clifton writes into the shadows—her father’s violations, a Black neighborhood bombed, death, loss—all while illuminating the full spectrum of human emotion: grief and celebration, anger and joy, empowerment and so much grace. A meeting place of myth and the Divine, The Book of Light exists “between starshine and clay” as Clifton’s personas allow us to bear the world’s weight with Atlas and witness conversations between Lucifer and God. While names and dates mark this text as a social commentary responding to her time, it is haunting how easily this collection serves as a political palimpsest of today. We leave these poems inspired—Clifton shows us Superman is not our hero. Our hero is the Black female narrator who decides to live. And what a life she creates! “Won’t you celebrate with me?”

Book Description
THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER 'Immensely moving and disarmingly witty' Nigella Lawson 'Such a moving, tough, funny, raw, honest read' Matt Haig 'Beautifully written, moving and gut-wrenching, but also at times very funny' Ian Rankin 'Captures brilliantly, beautifully, bravely the comedy as well as the tragedy of bereavement' The Times 'Will strike a chord with anyone who has grieved' Independent Whether it is pastoral care for the bereaved, discussions about the afterlife, or being called out to perform the last rites, death is part of the Reverend Richard Coles's life and work. But when his partner the Reverend David Coles died, shortly before Christmas in 2019, much about death took Coles by surprise. For one thing, David's death at the early age of forty-three was unexpected. The man that so often assists others to examine life's moral questions now found himself in need of help. He began to look to others for guidance to steer him through his grief. The flock was leading the shepherd. Much about grief surprised him: the volume of 'sadmin' you have to do when someone dies, how much harder it is travelling for work alone, even the pain of typing a text message to your partner - then realising you are alone. The Reverend Richard Coles's deeply personal account of life after grief will resonate, unforgettably, with anyone who has lost a loved one.

Book Description
Alain Emerson felt like the luckiest man in the world. A talented young pastor of a thriving church and national director of a prayer movement, he had found and married Lyndsay, the girl of his dreams, his soul mate. He could never have imagined that, in a matter of months, he would be nursing his beautiful twenty-three-year-old bride through the final stages of cancer, and that at the age of only twenty-seven he would find himself a widower, distraught and alone. The faith that had once seemed firm and secure began to crumble. And then there were the questions. Hadn't he been faithful and obedient? Why had God not answered his prayers? Why was God silent now? Why? Alain realized that in order for his faith to survive, he needed to face God, not hold Him at arm's length. Like Jacob, he had to wrestle, and like Job, he had to voice his pain and disappointment. He had to lean into the pain. In this profound exploration of loss, Emerson walks through the stages of grief and the shock of choosing to face God with his disappointment. He experiences the bewildering silence of God, the absence of simple answers, and the dark tunnel of despair. Taking great comfort from the Psalms and the work of writers who truly understand grief--Elie Wiesel, Walter Brueggemann, Jrgen Moltmann--Emerson wrestles with God and with his sorrow, and emerges with a deeper understanding and knowledge of God, a stronger and deeper faith, and a sense of having seen His face.

Book Description
From the pen of ROBERT JOSEPH FOLEY comes LIGHT INTO DARK, a startling new collection of stories that move from the lighthearted and frivolous to the depths of darkness. Astonishing and surprising, these stories will keep the reader riveted, laughing, crying or terrified at the bizarre twists Foley’s fiction takes. PRAISE FOR FOLEY’S WORK CONSEQUENCES OF PLAYING GOD – TALES FROM LINGOR HIGH “Foley’s “Consequences” is a sly, masterful, acrid, and wrenching collection of short stories. Comparison to the work of....Flannery O’Connor and Sherwood Anderson seems appropriate. There is unmistakable lushness, almost an embarrassment of richness, to Foley’s writing....No lover of piercing, tumultuous literature should miss it.” Christopher Soden. Clarion Review “Petty academic politics drive faculty and administration hopelessly apart while plots and counterplots rage and the student body glumly soldiers on....it’s insightful and comic take on the American high school and, by extension, American education in general strikes many of the right notes with verve and precision.” Blueink Review “....the punchy storyline keeps the pages turning....An amusingly offbeat parody that will appeal to quirky academics.” Kirkus Reviews A LITTLE OF THIS, A LOT OF THAT “....an entertaining exploration of religious differences, ghosts of the past, uncovered truths, and an unwinding thread of multi-generational connections....Foley’s...offering provides quality storytelling....From the opening....readers are drawn into a world of mystery and reckoning....The author’s descriptive ability shines through. Blueink Review “Rich and expressive, the short stories...inspect the microcommunities of 1910’s Jewish New York and a small Southern town....an entertaining trip....Unflinching, detailed language describes every inch of small town Equity Falls....expressive and absorbing.” Aimee Jodoin, Foreword Reviews “The book is an ambitious one, and Foley is an inventive storyteller.” Kirkus Review

Book Description
This monograph deals with the figurative and symbolic system in the novel “Oblomov” by I. A. Goncharov: it presents different interpretations of the image of Oblomov, demonstrates its complexity, organic combination of the typical and the individual. The author reveals the most significant artistic techniques of creating characters, typical for the novel and for the writer’s individual style in general. The study gives aesthetic characteristics of the novel characters, defines their artistic role and reveals polysemanticism in the novel structure. The “Supplement” presents a reflective hero in Russian literature and Soviet cinema (from Onegin and Oblomov to Zilov). The characteristic features of the literary type of “superfluous person” are highlighted in N. Mikhalkov’s film “A Few Days from the Life of I. I. Oblomov,” as well as in A. Vampilov’s play “Duck Hunting” and in its film adaptation “Vacation in September,” directed by V. Melnikov. The monograph is addressed to teachers and pupils, professors and students of philological faculties, as well as to everyone who reads and loves literature.
