Book Description
Although the empirical treatment of fluid flow and heat transfer in porous media is over a century old, only in the last three decades has the transport in these heterogeneous systems been addressed in detail. So far, single-phase flows in porous media have been treated or at least formulated satisfactorily, while the subject of two-phase flow and the related heat-transfer in porous media is still in its infancy. This book identifies the principles of transport in porous media and compares the avalaible predictions based on theoretical treatments of various transport mechanisms with the existing experimental results. The theoretical treatment is based on the volume-averaging of the momentum and energy equations with the closure conditions necessary for obtaining solutions. While emphasizing a basic understanding of heat transfer in porous media, this book does not ignore the need for predictive tools; whenever a rigorous theoretical treatment of a phenomena is not avaliable, semi-empirical and empirical treatments are given.

Book Description
Essentials of Radiation Heat Transfer focuses only on the essential topics required to gain an understanding of radiation heat transfer to enable the reader to master more challenging problems. The strength of the book lies in its elaborate presentation of the powerful radiosity-irradiation method and shows how this technique can be used to solve a variety of problems of radiation in enclosures made of one to any number of surfaces in both transparent and participating media. The book also introduces atmospheric radiation in which engineers can contribute to the technology of remote sensing and atmospheric sciences in general, by a better understanding of radiation. The author has included pedagogical features such as end-of-chapter exercises and worked examples with varying degrees of difficulty to augment learning and self-testing. The book has been written in an easy- to- follow conversational style to enhance reader engagement and learning outcomes. This book will be a useful guide for upper undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, atmospheric sciences, and energy sciences.

Book Description
Heat Transfer Principles and Applications is a welcome change from more encyclopedic volumes exploring heat transfer. This shorter text fully explains the fundamentals of heat transfer, including heat conduction, convection, radiation and heat exchangers. The fundamentals are then applied to a variety of engineering examples, including topics of special and current interest like solar collectors, cooling of electronic equipment, and energy conservation in buildings. The text covers both analytical and numerical solutions to heat transfer problems and makes considerable use of Excel and MATLAB(R) in the solutions. Each chapter has several example problems and a large, but not overwhelming, number of end-of-chapter problems.

Book Description
"This guide on the basics of heat transfer focuses on applications and problem-solving rather than theory and mathematics, demonstrating the critical connection between conceptual principles and their actual application in real-world thermal systems. Adopts a direct, "get to the bottom line" approach that avoids lengthy, complex mathematical excursions, and promotes understanding with topically arranged applications problems and detailed examples at the end of each chapter to help users relate heat transfer theory to its practical, everyday usage. Presents numerous computer applications using spreadsheets and other software. An extensive appendix includes comprehensive databases of thermal properties and related data; facilitates computer solution of convection problems, and; provides polynomial curve fits for the main thermal properties of liquids and gases. For professionals in mechanical and industrial technology." -- Publisher.
