Book Description
Most of us walk through each day expecting few surprises. If we want to better ourselves or our lives, we map out a path of gradual change, perhaps in counseling or psychotherapy. Psychologists William Miller and Janet C'de Baca were longtime scholars and teachers of traditional approaches to self-improvement when they became intrigued by a different sort of change that was sometimes experienced by people they encountered--something often described as "a bolt from the blue" or "seeing the light." And when they placed a request in a local newspaper for people's stories of unexpected personal transformation, the deluge of responses was astounding. These compelling stories of epiphanies and sudden insights inspired Miller and C'de Baca to examine the experience of "quantum change" through the lens of scientific psychology. Where does quantum change come from? Why do some of us experience it, and what kind of people do we become as a result? The answers that this book arrives at yield remarkable insights into how human beings achieve lasting change--sometimes even in spite of ourselves.

Book Description
I had a revelation at the end of the 20th century which revealed that my life was about to change. My book of poetry, The Epiphany of Change was my living the actual reality of each and every experience that I had to "grow" through in my life. I endured all forms of pain i.e. physical, emotional and spiritual during the past 9 years, which caused me to feel anger, hopeless and sad. Writing poetry became the therapy that I used to get through those hard times. I also wrote about how others around me were thinking and feeling. My book of poetry is for the people who are living in the NOW, suffering in a chaotic world thats filled with racism, hatred, greed, war and death. A world where governments are beginning to collaspe, a world of economic disaster due to the downward spiral of the Monetary System and a world that we must live in presently with uncertainties about the future. My book of poetry expresses how I went to the heart of the matter by going into my inner self to regurgitate all the hurt from the past up to where I am today, a place of PEACE. So now I stand at the point of knowing that I have the courage to change.

Book Description
James Joyce’s deeply personal and “most memorable novel” (H. G. Wells) detailing the spiritual and artistic awakening of Stephen Dedalus, now freshly repackaged for the Union Square & Co. Signature Classics line. James Joyce’s semi-autobiographical first novel explores the author’s own love-hate relationship with Ireland through Stephen Dedalus, Joyce’s literary alter ego. Dedalus yearns to be an artist, but must first overcome the aspects of Irish society, like school and the church, that he feels restrains his creativity and stifles his soul. Joyce’s use of experimental literary techniques, including stream of consciousness, is on full display in his first novel, which he further develops in his later works, Ulysses and Finnegan’s Wake.

Book Description
This antiquarian book contains "Stephen Hero", a part of the first draft of James Joyce's seminal book, "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man". This manuscript was offered for sale in 1935 by the first publisher of "Ulysses"; Miss Sylvia Beach, in her Parisian bookshop 'Shakespeare and Company'. "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" is a famous autobiographical novel written by Joyce and published posthumously. It traces the intellectual awakening of young Stephen Dedalus, the fictional alter ego of Joyce about whom H. G. Wells once wrote: "one believes in Stephen Dedalus as one believes in few characters in fiction.'' Many antiquarian books such as this are increasingly hard to come by and expensive, and it is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern edition complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.

Book Description
This book studies literary epiphany as a modality of character in the British and American novel. Epiphany presents a significant alternative to traditional models of linking the eye, the mind, and subject formation, an alternative that consistently attracts the language of spirituality, even in anti-supernatural texts. This book analyzes how these epiphanies become "spiritual" and how both character and narrative shape themselves like constellations around such moments. This study begins with James Joyce, 'inventor' of literary epiphany, and Martin Heidegger, who used the ancient Greek concepts behind 'epiphaneia' to re-define the concept of Being. Kim then offers readings of novels by Susan Warner, George Eliot, Edith Wharton, Virginia Woolf, and William Faulkner, each addressing a different form of epiphany.

Book Description
This collection of fifteen short stories by Irish author James Joyce examines how one's surroundings can shape and influence a person. Although initially considered too edgy for publication, Dubliners later became a classic as readers began to appreciate Joyce's realistic fiction. In each story, Joyce documents the daily lives and hardships of fictional Dublin citizens. Joyce's collection progresses from the struggles of childhood to the struggles of adulthood. This collection includes one of Joyce's most famous short stories, "The Dead," which depicts the ways memories of the past can intrude upon the present. Joyce provides a glimpse into twentieth-century Irish culture and history in this unabridged short story collection, first published in 1914.
