His novels range from the far future of Rogue Dragon and Mutiny in Space to the might-have-been Dark and Middle Ages -- comic in Peregrine: Primus and Peregrine: Secundus, haunting in The Phoenix and the Mirror and Vergil in Averno. From 1962 to 1964 he served as editor of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.
