Book Description
The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to better understand the effects the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Career Exploration Program has on 10th, 11th or 12th grade high school students' confidence in making career-related decisions following participation in the program. The Career Decision Self-Efficacy-Short Form (CDSE-SF), surveys, and focus group conversations were used to gather data. A pre- and post-test was a key part of this study's design and results of a paired sample t-test revealed that participation in the program had a statistically significant impact on the students' Career Decision Self-efficacy (CDSE). However, results of an independent t-test revealed that there was little difference in confidence levels between students that participated in the ASVAB CEP during this study and those that participated the previous school year. Schools are succeeding at providing students career-related information and career-related experiences; however, emphasis on planning students' futures, problem-solving, and creating goals may be necessary. Recommendations as a result of this study include ensuring all stakeholders are fully aware of career interventions offered in a high school and students receive their intervention results in a timely, professional manner. In addition, as part of a school's comprehensive school counseling program, school counselors could solicit motivated teachers to become certified School Career Development Advisors to assist with meeting students' career-related needs. Lastly, a range of career-related experiences for all students such as work-based learning, post-secondary enrollment options and a modern CTE program, could assist students with gaining the confidence required for making good career-related decisions.

Book Description
The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore senior high school students' college and career readiness self-efficacy after participating in a 1:1 setting. Student self-efficacy and teacher opinions on their students' college and career readiness self-efficacy as it relates to technology integration in the classroom were investigated. This study provides evidence of the impact of a 1:1 program in the context of student college and career readiness self-efficacy. Albert Bandura's (1994) Theory of Self-Efficacy provided the theoretical framework for this study. Bandura theorized there are four main causes of influence: mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion, and emotional and physiological states. Qualitative data were collected from teachers through interviews conducted via school email. Qualitative data were collected from students through face-to-face interviews. The two data sets were analyzed using the Colaizzi method. Once analyzed, the results were compared to determine what beliefs students and teachers hold between a 1:1 setting and students' college and career readiness self-efficacy. Data analysis resulted in 10 themes: Distractions (D), Confidence (C), Advantage (A), Essential (E), Prepared (P), Encouraged (EN), Technical Difficulties (TD), Easier (EA), Success (S), and Needs Improvement (NI). While there are some concerns of distractions, technical difficulties, and needs for improvement, overall, teacher and student participants admit mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion, and emotional and psychological states are all important and essential factors for the success of a 1:1 program that improves student college and career readiness self-efficacy.

Book Description
This study addresses the problem of high school graduates with learning disabilities who are unprepared for higher education and the workplace because of limited exposure to career professionals and perceived barriers. The purpose of this study is to examine how a career exploration model, entitled CaMPs (Career Model Professionals) influences students' career decision-making self-efficacy. CaMPs incorporates exposure to career role models, as well as career research and self-reflection. CaMPs proivides students with learning disabilities first-hand accounts of successful career professionals, to assist them in setting academic and career goals that are aligned to their personal strengths. This mixed methods study develops and evaluates a career based innovation for high school students and reviews the relationship between the innovation and students' self-efficacy. Students completed a self-efficacy survey (Career Decision Self-Efficacy - Short Form: CDSE) before and after the implementation of the CaMPs program. A t-test comparing pre- and post-survey scores indicated that there was a significant increase in self-efficacy after completion of the program. Qualitative data revealed changes in students' career interests and new considerations to their career preparation process after participating in the CaMPs innovation. This study will be useful in the development of career programs for high school students, particularly those with learning disabilities, to assist them in choosing and preparing for their future careers.
