FAO provides countries with technical support to conduct nutrition assessments, in particular to build the evidence base required for countries to achieve commitments made at the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) and under the 2016-2025 UN Decade of Action on Nutrition. Such concrete evidence can only derive from precise and valid measures of what people eat and drink. There is a wide range of dietary assessment methods available to measure food and nutrient intakes (expressed as energy insufficiency, diet quality and food patterns etc.) in diet and nutrition surveys, in impact surveys, and in monitoring and evaluation. Differenct indicators can be selected according to a study's objectives, sample population, costs and required precision. In low capacity settings, a number of other issues should be considered (e.g. availability of food composition tables, cultural and community specific issues, such as intra-household distribution of foods and eating from shared plates, etc.). This manual aims to signpost for the users the best way to measure food and nutrient intakes and to enhance their understanding of the key features, strengths and limitations of various methods. It also highlights a number of common methodological considerations involved in the selection process. Target audience comprises of individuals (policy-makers, programme managers, educators, health professionals including dietitians and nutritionists, field workers and researchers) involved in national surveys, programme planning and monitoring and evaluation in low capacity settings, as well as those in charge of knowledge brokering for policy-making.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and obesity both are becoming a global epidemic; both diseases are directly connected to a decrease in physical activity, increase in caloric consumption, and a poor diet overall. The global population as a whole is experiencing an increase in the baby boomer generation, which is also causing an increase in the onset of CVD in working individuals. Researchers have found that most individuals spend two-thirds of their waking hours at work. This leaves little time for an individual to easily and effectively change negative eating habits once they have become a part of their routine. This increases an individual's chances of being diagnosed with CVD or other serious comorbidities that could be prolonged or even prevented with adequate employee nutrition education. The purpose of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate an interactive lesson on healthy eating for corporate employees at Saint-Gobain & CertainTeed Corporations to increase their degree of nutritional knowledge and to increase their degree of self-efficacy toward achieving their weight loss goals in the coming year. The research study followed a quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design. The researcher conducted the study at Saint-Gobain & CertainTeed Corporations' main headquarters where 44 participants served as the convenience population. There was a PowerPoint presentation that was developed and presented by the researcher and was used during the seminar to allow the participants to follow along during the presentation. Forty-two participants provide usable data, which revealed raw scores in relation to nutritional knowledge; twenty-seven participants increased, nine were unchanged and four decreased after the intervention. The results of this study support the hypothesis that after participating in a lesson on healthy eating the corporate employees at Saint-Gobain & CertainTeed Corporations would demonstrate an increase in nutritional knowledge and have an increased level of self-efficacy towards achieving their weight loss percentage goals for the coming year as measured by comparing their results from a pre and post-test. Future research depicting the outcomes in participants who follow a program that is led by a healthcare health coach or a third party health coach compared to the results of a program led by a Registered Dietitian would be very interesting.
