Book Description
Poor adaptations of acrylic resin denture bases to the supporting tissues markedly decrease denture retention. Several denture base resin and processing techniques have been introduced to the profession, each claiming to produce a more accurate base. Microwave processing techniques has been introduced claims to minimize the dimensional changes. This purpose of this study was to compare the dimensional accuracy of three denture base resins when processed both by conventional water bath method and by use of microwave energy. Three Poly (MethylMethacrylate) heat cure resins selected for this study. These resins were processed by conventional water bath technique for 1 1/2 hours at 75 degree & half hour at 100 degree and by microwave energy for 3 mins at 500W. The measurements of acrylic resin denture base specimens were compared with the measurements of master metal die dimension keeping it as a standard measurement. The mean values of the difference in the points compared were calculated, & compared to each other to determine if there was a statistically significant difference between them at the 0.05 probability level using the students' independent test for pooled variances

Book Description
Denture bases are commonly made from acrylic resins, which were introduced by Dr. Walter Wright back in 1937. Among these, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is the most commonly used. PMMA material is mostly processed by wet heat and compression molding techniques, which deliver dentures with acceptable mechanical properties. However, certain dimensional changes are known to occur in acrylic resin during or after its processing. These changes hold clinical significance because for better adaptation to oral tissues, denture base material must have dimensional accuracy during and after its processing. However, inaccuracies tend to occur due to unavoidable changes during fabrication such as thermal expansion on heating, contraction on cooling and polymerization shrinkage. The purported significance of this study is to find out the most suitable cooling procedure for achieving maximum dimensional accuracy following a standard heating cycle. This will lead to the fabrication of a denture which will have better retention, support, stability.

Book Description
The heat cure denture base resins are extensively used for their excellent properties such as ease of handling, polishing and esthetics etc. However, the mechanical strength is not sufficient to maintain the longevity of denture. The fracture of acrylic resin denture is a common clinical occurrence. The ultimate goal of denture repair is to restore the denture s original strength and avoid further fracture. Satisfactory repairs must be easily and rapidly completed, match the original color of the material and maintain the dimensional accuracy. The objectives of the study are to evaluate the transverse strength and to estimate impact resistant of denture base acrylic resin repaired by different methods having different joint surface contours, and compares it with denture base acrylic resin repaired by conventional method. The work is useful for anybody and everybody who fabricates and repairs dentures. It promises meaningful information to dental undergraduates in clinics, interns, general dental practitioners, lab technicians, post-graduates and research scholars. It will be helpful to both dental academicians and clinicians.

Book Description
Scientific Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Medicine - Dentistry, language: English, abstract: This study aims to evaluate the effect of the addition of chlorohexidine gluconate (CHX) (powder) on some physical, mechanical properties and antimicrobial effect. In this study two hundred and forty samples of heat cured acrylic resin (Major base-2) were prepared and divided into different groups. Control group (without the addition of CHX) and experimental groups (with the addition of CHX (powder) at (1%, 2%, 3%)) to evaluate transverse strength, tensile strength, surface hardness, dimensional accuracy, deflection, residual monomer in addition to antimicrobial effect for heat cured acrylic resin before and after the addition of CHX (powder). Results showed a statistically significant difference at (p0.05) between control and experimental groups. The addition of CHX (powder) into heat cured acrylic resin increases its flexibility in addition to it's antimicrobial effect. Group of 1% CHX has the highest value of transverse strength, tensile strength, surface hardness and dimensional accuracy after control group. In addition to its antimicrobial effect, CHX increases the flexibility of heat cured acrylic resin. As the concentration of added CHX increased, the flexibility of heat cured acrylic resin specimens will be increased.
