Book Description
Linear Optimization and Dualiyy: A Modern Exposition departs from convention in significant ways. Standard linear programming textbooks present the material in the order in which it was discovered. Duality is treated as a difficult add-on after coverage of formulation, the simplex method, and polyhedral theory. Students end up without knowing duality in their bones. This text brings in duality in Chapter 1 and carries duality all the way through the exposition. Chapter 1 gives a general definition of duality that shows the dual aspects of a matrix as a column of rows and a row of columns. The proof of weak duality in Chapter 2 is shown via the Lagrangian, which relies on matrix duality. The first three LP formulation examples in Chapter 3 are classic primal-dual pairs including the diet problem and 2-person zero sum games. For many engineering students, optimization is their first immersion in rigorous mathematics. Conventional texts assume a level of mathematical sophistication they don’t have. This text embeds dozens of reading tips and hundreds of answered questions to guide such students. Features Emphasis on duality throughout Practical tips for modeling and computation Coverage of computational complexity and data structures Exercises and problems based on the learning theory concept of the zone of proximal development Guidance for the mathematically unsophisticated reader About the Author Craig A. Tovey is a professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Tovey received an AB from Harvard College, an MS in computer science and a PhD in operations research from Stanford University. His principal activities are in operations research and its interdisciplinary applications. He received a Presidential Young Investigator Award and the Jacob Wolfowitz Prize for research in heuristics. He was named an Institute Fellow at Georgia Tech, and was recognized by the ACM Special Interest Group on Electronic Commerce with the Test of Time Award. Dr. Tovey received the 2016 Golden Goose Award for his research on bee foraging behavior leading to the development of the Honey Bee Algorithm.

Book Description
Give Us This Day is a unique daily devotional commentary for the entire New Testament based on the ancient method called lectio divina. Lectio divina, or “divine reading,” is the method used by the early church and countless Christians through the centuries to read the Scriptures to form and transform the soul more than merely to inform the mind. Give Us This Day deals in depth with entire passages and their contexts. Rather than selecting only certain portions of the New Testament to write about, Fr. Charles has written a devotional for each and every passage of the New Testament. Fr. Charles writes for the whole person: he’s not afraid to use his sense of humor, and he carefully relates the Bible not only to the individual’s life but also to the life of the Church. At the end of each day’s devotional, an appropriate Prayer is offered, as well as Points for Further Reflection on the day’s lesson. Each devotional concludes with a suggested Resolution to put into effect what the Spirit has stirred up in the heart of the reader during the course of his reading, meditation, and prayer.

Book Description
Beth Baris had learned to survive in the slums where she'd lived all her life, but she is suddenly thrust among the elite service members of the Spacefleet of the Six Worlds. The skills that allowed her to survive in the slums are no longer relevant. Aletha Landish, an admiral in Spacefleet is instrumental in Beth's sudden change of lifestyle. Aletha had become her surrogate mother before she disappeared, and as with her first appearance, Beth is surprised by the demands the woman makes of her. She is fifteen years old, and Aletha wants her to join Spacefleet! Abiding Aletha's wishes, Beth works very hard to complete the hellish second phase of her training, and discovers she has just completed Officers Candidate School. Lieutenant Robert Jacobs, a young man with secrets of his own, makes her life aboard ship bearable. He also makes it interesting when he becomes sick while their captain is drunk, and she is thrust into the Captain's Chair when they suddenly come under attack. With a Laserian Battle Cruiser bearing down on them, Beth is required to make a decision. Should she comply with the standard operating procedure for the ship, or should she follow her instincts when they're based on what she's read rather than what she was taught at the academy?

Monique wants Jim Bob's son to be a Delacroix, and Tucker steps up—it’s what family does. Willow Vernon has never approved of her sister’s affair with a wealthy married man, but when tragedy strikes, Willow assumes care of her nephew. When Tucker demands shared custody rights, Willow’s ready to go to battle. Tucker’s the same kind of irresponsible philanderer as Jim Bob, and she’s not falling for the Delacroix charm like Monique did, no matter how tempting Tucker might be.
