Book Description
The Holy Spirit, An Experimental And Pratical View is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by Octavius Winslow (1 August 1808 – 5 March 1878), also known as "The Pilgrim's Companion", was a prominent 19th-century evangelical preacher in England and America. A Baptist minister for most of his life and contemporary of Charles Spurgeon and J. C. Ryle, he seceded to the Anglican church in his last decade. Octavius's mother, Mary Forbes (1774 – 1854) had Scottish roots but was born and raised in Bermuda and was the only child of Dr. and Mrs George Forbes. On 6 September 1791, when she was just 17, she married Army Lieutenant Thomas Winslow of the 47th Regiment. Shortly after this, she came under spiritual convictions and was brought to gospel deliverance while pleading the promise, "Ask, and ye shall receive" Octavius seems to have been given his name because he was then the eighth surviving child. As a child, Octavius and family would worship at Pentonville Chapel under the ministry of Rev. Thomas Sheppard. During this time of his life, he suffered from what seemed to be a life-threatening illness. While staying in Twickenham, a nurse accidentally administered an incorrect medicine that doctors would later say would have killed ten men. Octavius's father was from a wealthy family but by 1815, following his retirement from the army, he suffered ill health and the loss of his fortune due to one of several national financial disasters that occurred in this period. A decision was soon made to move to America, but before Mr. Winslow could join his wife and children in New York, he died. At the same time, their youngest child died too. Octavius was but 7 years old. Widowed at 40, responsible for a large family, and scarcely settled in America, Mrs Winslow's entire life was turned upside down. Worst of all, spiritual darkness and despondency overwhelmed her for many months. They were a deeply religious family and Octavius later wrote a book about their experiences from his mother's perspective in a book entitled Life in Jesus. Family historian D. Kenelm Winslow recorded their plight: "Mary had the youngsters out on the streets of New York selling matches and newspapers as soon as they were old enough for such tasks. She set them to any job they could tackle, gathering them around her at night for scripture reading followed by a good sound evangelical harangue and prayers." Mary and her children lived in New York City until 1820. Then, after a four-month visit back to England, they would then move to Sing Sing, NY on the Hudson River for "four years of congenial repose". In 1824, they would move back to New York City for a season of "special revival" where brothers Octavius, Isaac, and George would become converted and later convinced of God's calling to ministry.

Book Description
A.W. Tozer maintained that a theologian’s message must be ‘both timeless and timely’, a sentiment borne out in the fact that his writing on worship still acts as an urgent warning today. Tozer is primarily concerned with the loss of the concept of ‘majesty’ from the popular mind and more importantly from the thinking of the church. He sees the church as having surrendered her once lofty concept of God – not deliberately, but little by little and without her knowledge. With this comes a further loss of religious awe and a sense of the divine presence, of an appropriate spirit of worship and of our ability to withdraw inwardly to meet God in adoring silence. Tozer addresses this problem, to go back to the causes of the decline and to understand and correct the errors that have given rise to our devotional poverty. ‘It is impossible to keep our moral practices sound and our inward attitudes right while our idea of God is erroneous or inadequate,’ he tells us. What is needed is a restoration of our knowledge of the holy.

The Trinity is one of the most central doctrines in Christianity, one of the tenets that is completely unique to the Christian faith. This full-color pamphlet explains the Trinity in clear easy-to-understand terms and illustrations. This basic booklet with a simple explanation of the Trinity also answers 6 common misunderstandings about God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It provides a basic study for those wishing to understand their faith and the Trinity. How to Explain the Trinity: The Trinity Defined The Trinity is one of the great mysteries of the Faith. Defining the Trinity is both simple and complex: God is One, yet God exists in 3 Persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is a biblical concept that goes beyond the human understanding. This pamphlet gives a basic explanation and definition of this important Christian belief. The pamphlet includes the following:A clear, easy-to-understand definition of the Trinity doctrine60 Scriptures used to support the belief that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all God, not three names for the same PersonChart comparing the power and attributes of the 3 Persons of the TrinityChart comparing the “Unique” traits of God and JesusChristian Beliefs and Church History Explained The pamphlet helps believers know what they believe and why they believe this critical Christian doctrine. In 12-panels of rich, well-research information, it addresses topics such as:What Christians believe about the Trinity: The Father is God, Jesus Is God, The Holy Spirit is GodThe Trinity and the BibleMisunderstandings about the TrinityHow early Christians dealt with misunderstandings about the TrinityThe Trinity in the early Church and the CreedsImportant Trinitarian Bible verses and referencesChurch History and the Doctrine of the TrinityMore than 60 New Testament Bible passages mention the three Persons of the Trinity together.Theophilus, sixth bishop of Antioch in Syria, is the first person known to have used the word “Trinity” in his work, Refutation of Autolycus (AD 168).More than a half-dozen writers prior to the 4th Century defended the doctrine of the Trinity. (Names and dates are given.)Six Misunderstandings and Misinterpretations about the Trinity It’s probably not surprising that a doctrine that’s as critical as the Trinity is at the center of numerous misunderstandings. The pamphlet addresses six of the most common Trinity misunderstandings. The Christian Creeds and the Trinity The pamphlet shows how early Christians addressed these misunderstandings through some of the earliest statements of faith:The Apostles’ Creed, written in the second centuryThe Nicene Creed, written in 325 ADAthanasian Creed, written c. 400 ADChalcedoian Creed, written in 451 ADOne of the most powerful charts in the pamphlet shows that God and Jesus Christ share 10 key traits that are mentioned in the Old Testament as applying to no-one but God. Another chart shows seven divine attributes shared by Father, Son and Holy Spirit—with Scripture references for each.
