Book Description
The diary as a genre is found in all literate societies, and these autobiographical accounts are written by persons of all ranks and positions. The Diary offers an exploration of the form in its social, historical, and cultural-literary contexts with its own distinctive features, poetics, and rhetoric. The contributors to this volume examine theories and interpretations relating to writing and studying diaries; the formation of diary canons in the United Kingdom, France, United States, and Brazil; and the ways in which handwritten diaries are transformed through processes of publication and digitization. The authors also explore different diary formats, including the travel diary, the private diary, conflict diaries written during periods of crisis, and the diaries of the digital era, such as blogs. The Diary offers a comprehensive overview of the genre, synthesizing decades of interdisciplinary study to enrich our understanding of, research about, and engagement with the diary as literary form and historical documentation.

Book Description
"Never before published in English, Carolina's second diary, written in 1960-61, describes her life in the first year after the sudden (and, as it turned out, temporary) fame of Quarto de despejo (see HLAS 25:4741). Translated faithfully into English, evokes the often awkward style adopted by Carolina. Excellent afterword and notes"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.

Book Description
Black Girls Experiencing Their Intersectional Identities in School explores the subjective experience of Black girls within the educational context. Based on interviews, diary entries, and focus groups, the author argues that as a result of their intersectional identities, Black girls experience unique challenges and obstacles in the educational setting. Addressing topics ranging from interpersonal relationships, social media, beauty, sexuality, hypervisibility/invisibility, and microaggressions, this book highlights the voices and experiences of Black girls between the ages of 11 and 15. The Girls provide a narrative account of the challenges they face daily in the educational context, describing in detail, the factors that maintain and perpetuate volatile conditions. Additionally, this book explores the coping strategies that this group of Black girls developed to resist and respond to the daily obstacles. Ultimately, this book not only identifies the unique struggles faced by Black girls in schools as a result of their intersectional identities; but most importantly, this work explores pragmatic strategies that can be implemented to create safe and beneficial spaces for Black Girls. The author argues that through the implementation of Black Feminist Pedagogy, an “Ethic of Caring,” and partnerships with Black Girl Empowerment organizations, educational practitioners can mediate the negative experiences and create spaces for growth.

Book Description
Amid the tumultuous landscape of early 20th-century literature, a voice emerged that would forever alter the contours of modern fiction. This collection of intimate diaries offers an unprecedented glimpse into the mind of one of the greatest literary figures of her time. Spanning over three decades, these journals reveal Virginia Woolf's innermost thoughts, struggles, and triumphs, providing an intimate counterpoint to her well-known novels. Readers are invited to witness the raw, unfiltered emotions that fueled Woolf's groundbreaking works, from the initial spark of inspiration to the painstaking process of creation. Her reflections on the cultural and political upheavals of her era, her candid observations on fellow writers, and her deeply personal battles with mental illness paint a vivid portrait of a woman driven by an insatiable quest for artistic perfection and personal truth. This edition collects all five volumes of Woolf’s published diaries, spanning from 1915 to 1941. VIRGINIA WOOLF [1882–1941] was an English author. With novels like Jacob’s Room [1922], Mrs Dalloway [1925], To the Lighthouse [1927], and Orlando [1928], she became a leading figure of modernism and is considered one of the most important English-language authors of the 20th century. As a thinker, with essays like A Room of One’s Own [1929], Woolf has influenced the women’s movement in many countries.
