Book Description
One of the first-ever books on gender transition, this poignant memoir by a trans woman is “the best first-hand account ever written by a traveler across the boundaries of sex” (Newsweek). “A profoundly poetic story.” —The New York Times “An exquisite read.” —Maria Popova, The Marginalian The great travel writer Jan Morris was born James Morris. James Morris distinguished himself in the British military, became a successful and physically daring reporter, climbed mountains, crossed deserts, and established a reputation as a historian of the British empire. He was happily married, with several children. To all appearances, he was not only a man, but a man’s man. Except that appearances, as James Morris had known from early childhood, can be deeply misleading. James Morris had known all his conscious life that at heart he was a woman. Conundrum, one of the earliest books to discuss transsexuality with honesty and without prurience, tells the story of James Morris’ hidden life and how he decided to bring it into the open, as he resolved first on a hormone treatment and, second, on risky experimental surgery that would turn him into the woman that he truly was.

Book Description
This book is a compilation of essays on several themes intended to provoke thought on and promote understanding about everyday political and social life on an island facing constant geopolitical and domestic political challenges. The themes of this book are: 4/21 Terror Attack and National Security; China, Belt and Road Initiative and Sri Lankan Foreign Policy; Geopolitics; Sustaining Democracy and Facing a Pandemic; and Domestic Political Stability, Leadership and Economic Crime. Most essays have captured the domestic viewpoint from which to begin drawing a wider picture of the global geopolitical tapestry. The chapters enframe a variety of domestic political incidents, conflicts of various actors, and the conundrum of an island in the Indian Ocean, stuck in the triangular maritime power dynamics among the United States, China, and India. They also examine the influences from foreign nations towards Sri Lanka's foreign policy and the dynamics of security challenges in the larger geosphere and marine sphere of South Asia and the Indian Ocean respectively. The chapters offer the reader an Olympian viewpoint of the challenges Sri Lanka faces, attempting to find connections and patterns towards greater external geopolitical influence and how it impacts domestic politics.

Book Description
If you want to be scared, buy this if only to read the last four chapters on biological level 3 and 4 labs and biological warfare. If you do not want to do that, research it yourself. You will be enlightened and scared beyond belief. I began writing the book because of my interest and confusion about what has been taking place around the globe since the year 2020 began. The West went from hearing about Jeffrey Epstein being murdered in his prison cell and Prince Andrew lying worldwide during an interview to the continual broadcasts of Covid-19 – a plague of biblical proportion that was on its way to kill millions, as reported by the mass media. It still is being reported over and over but now added is – the second wave, how bad will it be? How bad was the first one? I worked in the field of public health for 32 years, the last 10 years as Associate Commissioner of Public Health in a Canadian Public Health Department responsible for a population of close to one-half million people. If I learned one thing over those years it is that only programs, strategies and interventions that are evidence based work. Anything else is so much window dressing. One excellent example is school nurses. Why is that program still in place? Because it always has been that way. Window dressing. The more I researched Covid-19 the more, rather than less, confused I became. Testing was flawed, the science was more than bad, data was all over the place, methodologies were different, and interventions, like lockdowns and closures, were anything but, evidence based. Of all the countries, Sweden came the closest to reacting with strategies that were evidence based. In all my years of public health practice, the great majority of those at risk were the always the aged, the young, those with chronic illnesses, and those in the low socioeconomic category, now getting to be the largest category in the population. Those people were always targeted during cold alerts, heat alerts, smog alerts, etc., etc. Mass closures of work and schools were never a thought. Why this time? What I will show you in this book or story is merely a number of real facts and interviews, mostly not reported by the mass media, including strange and flawed data, reversals in decisions based upon nothing tangible and rumors and innuendos. There is something very wrong in this entire story, something that is being covered up and not reported. I have some thoughts but not enough evidence to arrive at any solid conclusion. So while I am not supporting any particular theory, I hope if you are able to read some of the research and news stories that have been documented that you will have a better sense of what is happening and what is now, or will be, hidden, possibly under the, now always present, label of ‘National Security’.

Book Description
Conundrum is a mind-stretch. Encrypting idioms into their typographic equivalents, Harry enlivens our everyday language and challenges readers to see that "time after time after time" or, at least, "more often than not" "the writing is on the wall." For fans of word puzzles, sudoku, crosswords, and all manner of mind games, Conundrum offers an artfully packaged, cleverly designed new challenge. Drawing upon, literally in this case, graphic puzzles that he began creating as a child, Harry's developed over 100 witty conundrums for this book that will stretch the mind as well as delight the senses. A member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale, a frequent lecturer and contributor to design discourse, an internationally recognized leader in design, and a founder of Lippa Pearce, one of the UK's most respected design agencies, Harry refines the way we see and communicate. Conundrum achieves nothing less than changing how we understand and interact with language.

Book Description
North Korea is consistently identified as one of the world’s worst human rights abusers. However, the issue of human rights in North Korea is a complex one, intertwined with issues like life in the North Korean police state, inter-Korean relations, denuclearization, access to information in the North, and international cooperation, to name a few. There are likewise multiple actors involved, including the two Korean governments, the United States, the United Nations, South Korea NGOs, and global human rights organizations. While North Korea’s nuclear weapons and the security threat it poses have occupied the center stage and eclipsed other issues in recent years, human rights remain important to U.S. policy. The contributors to The North Korean Conundrum explore how dealing with the issue of human rights is shaped and affected by the political issues with which it is so entwined. Sections discuss the role of the United Nations; how North Koreans’ limited access to information is part of the problem, and how this is changing; the relationship between human rights and denuclearization; and North Korean human rights in comparative perspective.

Book Description
This book looks at the COVID-19 pandemic and its likely aftermath through a four-dimensional prism - aspirations, emotions, thoughts, and sensations to understand human behavior. That perspective opens possibilities to turn the current crisis into an opportunity for positive change; because systematically influencing the various components of our being, individually and collectively, begins by understanding their nature and interaction. Beyond influence this interplay between dimensions can be optimized; which is the purpose of the C-Core (completion, compassion, creativity, cooperation) introduced in the book. In addition, the four determinants that shape institutions: priorities, people, positions, programs - the P-Puzzle are looked at. This book combines theory and concrete suggestions both for policymakers in charge of designing the collective landscape and for individuals who must adapt to, and shape, a new ‘normal’. COVID-19 is a reminder that humans around the World are fundamentally the same. Whether in the long run the Pandemic will bring out the best or the worst in humans depends on individual and collective choices to nurture our best individual and collective selves. COVID-19 may either expand life quality by adding a new breadth of solidarity or reduce Society to mere survival.

Book Description
"Science doubt, resistance, and denial are not new. Galileo challenged the prevailing geocentric view of our solar system and was dismissed as a heretic. What is the history of science denial, what's different now, and why does it seem worse? In this opening chapter, What is the Problem and Why Does it Matter? Sinatra and Hofer chart the development of this problem, examine how doubt has also been manufactured, and explain how media attempts at "balance" can become a form of bias. While acknowledging the limits and fallibility of science, they argue that if the US is to be a leader in sustainable economic and social progress, a greater percentage of Americans need to value, understand, and accept scientific methods and findings. When so many US citizens deny science, the health and wellbeing of Americans and our hopes for a sustainable future are put in peril."--

Book Description
The definitive book on the changing political winds in West Bengal, and what it means for local governments fighting the might of the BJP nationwide. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP pulled off an unbelievable feat in Bengal-taking their tally of seats from 2 to 18 and vote share of 17 to 40 per cent in just four years. What were the reasons behind such a surge in support for the saffron party in the eastern Indian state? In The Bengal Conundrum, senior journalist Sambit Pal attempts to explain why a state that was the citadel of Left politics for decades has turned Right in less than 10 years. Documenting the contemporary political history of Bengal, both through written and exclusive first-hand accounts, the author answers how Mamata Banerjee's politics and governance over the past few years set a fertile ground for the combined force of the BJP and the RSS to construct a compelling political narrative in Bengal. As West Bengal grapples with tumultuous times-from the controversy surrounding the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic-on the cusp of a crucial election, the BJP and the TMC are rolling their dices to win the strategic battle. Whether Mamata Banerjee wins or loses the 2020 state elections, it remains clear that politics in eastern India has changed irrevocably, and will be experiencing the aftereffects for years to come.
