Book Description
In every school across the United States, at least one child is being bullied, or we have heard of it at least. At times, teachers, parents, or children witness bullies at their school. Usually, the students attention is called in, and the student is reprimanded. This does not stop the behavior though. As educators and parents, its important to look into what is causing childrens or students behaviors. Once we tap into the problem, we could work on changing the behavior. No one likes to be bullied, but it happens. These bullies are the ones that we would love to stomp flat as an ant. Reality sets in, and you cant do it out of fear. Fear is the evil of silence, which only gives the bully more ammunition to carry on with their bulling. Encourage students to analyze the cause of bullying, and let me come up with a solution to stop it. Empower students, and they shall deliver. Jose and Hector are best friends who fear another student named Rafael. There is not a day of the week that goes by that Rafael doesnt get into trouble. Rafael is the bully of the school and doesnt care what consequences he is given. A group of friends is tired of his bullying and wants to do something about it. They seek advice from one of their teachers, who gets them to thinking about Rafaels behavior. They find that there are underlying reasons why Rafael behaves the way he does. They make a plan to help him stop being a bully.

Book Description
Bullying used to be thought of as an unpleasant rite of passage, but now psychologists are realizing that it inflicts real harm. As many as 40 percent of children report that they've experienced episodes of bullying at school or online through their school community. School safety expert Edward Dragan argues that parents need to be proactive in looking out for their children's social well being at school. From his many decades as a Board of Education insider, he argues that schools are self-protective entities and reluctant to address bullying themselves. The Bully Action Guide shows parents how to: • discuss bullying with their child • efficiently address individual needs with teachers • take effective action to stop the bullying

Book Description
Departing from an essentialist concept of the self, this highly original volume advances the cross-cultural study of selfhood with three contributions to the literature: First, it approaches the self as an ideological process, arguing that selfhood is culturally situated and emergent in social practices of persuasion. Second, it demonstrates how postmodernity problematizes the experience and concept of the self. Finally, the book challenges the pervasive practice of equating an individuated self with the Western world and a relational self with the non-Western world. Contributions cover a broad range of topics—from the development of the eccentric self to the ritual circumcision of Jewish males.

Inquiry-Based Lessons in U.S. History: Decoding the Past provides primary source lessons that focus on teaching U.S. history through inquiry to middle school students. Students will be faced with a question to answer or problem to solve and will examine primary sources for evidence to create hypothetical solutions. The chapters focus on key chronological periods (e.g., the Age of Exploration to the Civil Rights era) and follow the scope and sequence of major social studies textbooks, with activities linked to the U.S. History Content Standards and the Common Core State Standards for Literacy in History/Social Studies. The three lesson plans in each chapter begin with an essential question that sets the focus for the primary sources and teaching strategies that follow. The lesson plans include differing types of primary sources such as photographs, speeches, political cartoons, historic maps, paintings, letters, and diary entries. Grades 5-8
