Book Description
Excerpt from The Brooklyn Medical Journal, Vol. 3: January-December, 1889 Granting that this affection is rare compared with its supposed frequency in former times, there is no doubt that it occurs as a pri -mary inflammation often enough to call for a large share of attention. Nothing new has been brought out regarding the pathology, except that chronic cellulitis, which has been a cherished notion with some, has been in the past few years denied an existence by good observers. I have also observed a peculiar complication of this affection which has not been noticed before, so far as I know, viz., an extension of the inflammation from the broad ligament to the sheath of the psoas muscle: the pus from the primary abscess burrowing outwards and upwards. Book Description
Excerpt from The Brooklyn Medical Journal, Vol. 19: Published Monthly by the Medical Society of the Country of Kings In conclusion, although mirror writing has been already recognized as physiologic for the left hand and as being often met with in those who use that hand for writing, it can further be assumed to be present potentially and for both hands in every individual who has learned to write. As the graphic centres of the left mid frontal convolution store up graphic motor pic tures, analagous pictures reversely formed are accumulated in the corresponding centre on the right. The former may then be called into play with either left or right hand to produce ordinary writing, while similarly a right graphic centre mav be correlated with different motor centres to produce mirror writing in either hand.' Both of these graphic picture centres may also be corre lated with the appropriate muscle motor centres to produce mirror or ordinary writing through the medium of the toes, lips, elbows, or any other part to which suitable apparatus can be attached. From notes and specimens obtained the follow ing have been selected as being of special interest for presentation. Each one is the result of a first attempt and was written without any practise; the writers are all strongly right-handed. No. I shows six specimens obtained from the members of one family through three generations. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
