The people who inhabited Southwest Europe from 30,000 to 13,000 years ago are often portrayed as big game hunters – and indeed, in some locations (Cantabrian Spain, the Pyrenees, the Dordogne) the archaeological record supports this interpretation. But in other places, notably Mediterranean Iberia, the inhabitants focused their hunting efforts on smaller game, such as rabbits, fish, and birds. Were they less effective hunters? Were these environments depleted of red deer and other large game? Or is this evidence of Paleolithic people’s adaptability? This volume explores these questions, along the way delving into the history of the “bigger equals better” assumption; optimal foraging theory and niche construction theory; and patterns of environmental and subsistence change across the Pleistocene-Holocene transition.

This volume presents some of the latest research in colour studies by specialists across a wide range of academic disciplines. The opening chapter of this new volume stems from the conference keynote talk on prehistoric colour semantics by Carole P. Biggam. Coronaviruses are zoonoses viruses that belong to the Coronaviridae family of the Nidovirales order. Coronaviruses contain 4 genera: α, β, γ and δ. Among these, Alpha and Beta coronaviruses pose a major health threat to humans and other mammals. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) epidemic led to 8,000 people infected with a fatality of ~10% in 2002 and 2003. More than 521 million cases and more than 6 million deaths have been confirmed globally. And the variants of SARS-CoV-2 were conformed to escape the vaccine-induced neutralizing antibodies and immune system, causing break-through infection, and posing long-term threats. SARS-CoV-2 is constantly evolving into new variants, creating global epidemic waves. Broad-spectrum antiviral targets or treatments are also urgently needed in the event of novel coronavirus cross-species transmission in the future. It is necessary to address new vaccine designs, pan drugs and antibodies, and universal mechanisms during viral infection.
