The Story of Two Sisters Who Were Jealous of Their Younger Sister
Author: One Thousand and One Nights
Publisher: Lindhardt og Ringhof
ISBN: 8726593211
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 15
Book Description
Kosrouschah the Sultan overhears three sisters daydreaming about their future husbands: the eldest wishes to marry the Sultan’s baker so she would never go hungry; the second wishes to marry the Sultan’s carpenter so she would never be homeless; the youngest wishes to marry the Sultan – who instantly falls in love with her. As time passes, however, the older sisters grow jealous of the Sultana, so they decide to take their revenge, kidnapping and abandoning her three children. Rescued and brought up by a humble gardener, the children must complete a magical quest to reunite their family. Discover the enchantment of this Cinderella-like fairy tale, the last of the 34 tales in the classic Arabian Nights collection, translated into English by Andrew Lang. A treasure-trove of timeless stories, the One Thousand and One Nights or Arabian Nights have been loved, imitated, and added to over many centuries. Similar to the fairy tales collected by the Brothers Grimm, the Arabian Nights are drawn from the folklore of India, Iran and the Middle East, and were collected in Arabic versions throughout the medieval period; others were added as recently as the eighteenth century. These stories of the exotic East have been popularised for new generations by film adaptations such as Disney’s Aladdin, starring Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried in 1992, and Will Smith in 2019, and Dreamworks’ Sinbad, starring Brad Pitt and Michelle Pfeiffer. They continue to inspire writers as varied as Salman Rushdie and Neil Gaiman, while numerous Bollywood and manga versions attest to their popularity around the world. These stories of magic, adventure and romance have shaped readers’ imaginations for generations, and are sure to be retold for years to come. This selection was translated by Andrew Lang from the French versions by Antoine Galland, who was the first to include the stories of Aladdin and Ali Baba. Born in Scotland in 1844, Lang was a scholar of ancient Greek, a journalist, historian, novelist and poet, and the author of 25 popular collections of fairy tales; his edition of the Arabian Nights’ Entertainment was published in 1898. He became a Fellow of the British Academy in 1906, and died in 1912.

Oh My Little Squirrel

Pages : 73
Book Description
If you know me, you know about my love of the critters that come visit me almost every day. Of course, I am closest to my sweet friend, “Little squirrel” that visits me every night at 5:00pm for his peanuts. The minute he hears me shake the peanut bag he knows it is “din din” time and all but trips over his own little paws to get to the tree where I place the peanuts on a concrete block that sits at the bottom of his tree! He loves watching me as much as I enjoy watching him! I also have 2 feral cats; a little gray kitten and a big ole’ long haired black cat with a white chest that looks very handsome and formal in his “tuxedo” when he comes to eat each day. He always looks like he is bored with life when he looks at me with his large deep set orange eyes. Little gray kitten just loves picking on him too! These two are so funny! They always keep me amused. Oh! I have the cutest bunny ever that hops through my side yard every day (especially when we plant our garden!). My bunny is so adorable! He looks just like a precious brown and white Easter Bunny! And I can’t forget my redheaded woodpecker. He is HUGE! He is either up in a tree pecking on the bark, or working on the tree stump in our side yard; helping us take it to the ground. He is a handy fellow to have around! With this being said, the sweet little characters in my book are written after real ones that visit me each day in my yard. They make my front porch my happy place! I hope you enjoy reading “OH My Little Squirrel” and following my Little squirrel’s adventures as much as I enjoyed writing about them!

Who Am I and What Is in a Life
Author: Denise Hamilton
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 1644921723
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 95
Book Description
We all can remember, as a child, how we would daydream. I remember how I would sit and dream of growing up. I would wonder: would I be tall? Would I be skinny? Would I marry? Where will I live? Would I be rich or poor? Daydreams were an escape from what real life was like. Looking back, I realize that survival was the goal of life, living in a poor neighborhood and an abusive, dysfunctional family. As a family, we worked through many problems to simply survive. As an adult, all of our family members paid an emotional price, and some physical prices for surviving our childhood. I give God the praise for helping my siblings and me. God gave us the strength and the spiritual awareness to overcome the pitfalls that were placed in our life. There were many who would never make it out of the mindset of defeat. Together, as siblings pledging to always be there to help each other, no matter what, we would make it out of what should have been our destiny to live as our parents did in poverty and sin. Our destiny and legacy for our own children could have been very different. This is the story of my family and how each of us found our way through life and found our destiny.
