Book Description
The Tahoe Tish stories take place during a black bear cub's first year living and learning in the Lake Tahoe forest. From emerging from the den with her Mama in the spring, through returning to the den in winter for hibernation, Tish learns how to find food and survive the human-caused perils brought by the visitors to Lake Tahoe. As a Reno, Nevada resident, I have learned to share the Lake Tahoe environment with the bears who are indigenous to our region. The purpose of writing these books is to introduce young readers to what it's like to be black bear growing up in a wild area visited by thousands of people. Some of the actions the bears undertake are exaggerated and do not happen in the wild (like using an aspen tree limb to pull trout out of a shallow stream or carrying a pot of water to douse smoking coals in a forgotten camp fire.) But who knows? Perhaps these behaviors have just not yet been documented! In Tahoe Tish and the Teddy Bear, Tish she sees people for the first time and finds out that little children have stuffed Teddys to love. In Tahoe Tish and the Forest Fire she learns that people can be careless with camp fires and her Mama teaches her what to do about that. In Tahoe Tish and the Garbgae Can Tish learns that people food smells, and probably tastes, really good...but her Mama explains why they should never eat it. Finally, in Tahoe Tish Learns to Fish her Mama shows her how to fatten up on Kokanee salmon to get ready for the next long hibernation.

Book Description
Tish, the little black bear, is worried. Her Mama says that the summer's hot, dry winds can cause a forest fire if people who are camping around Lake Tahoe are careless. So, to help Tish get past her worries, Mama shows Tish how to properly extinguish a camp fire. This is the second book in the Tahoe Tish series. Visitors to Lake Tahoe may not know much about the black bears inhabiting the area. The Tahoe Tish stories are set during a black bear cub's first year. From emerging from the den with her Mama for the first time in the spring, through fattening up on salmon prior to winter hibernation, Tish learns how to survive the human-caused perils brought by the people who visit Lake Tahoe.

Book Description
How do the rich get rich? An updated edition of the “remarkable” New York Times bestseller, based on two decades of research (The Washington Post). Most of the truly wealthy in the United States don’t live in Beverly Hills or on Park Avenue. They live next door. America’s wealthy seldom get that way through an inheritance or an advanced degree. They bargain-shop for used cars, raise children who don’t realize how rich their families are, and reject a lifestyle of flashy exhibitionism and competitive spending. In fact, the glamorous people many of us think of as “rich” are actually a tiny minority of America’s truly wealthy citizens—and behave quite differently than the majority. At the time of its first publication, The Millionaire Next Door was a groundbreaking examination of America’s rich—exposing for the first time the seven common qualities that appear over and over among this exclusive demographic. This edition includes a new foreword by Dr. Thomas J. Stanley—updating the original content in the context of the financial crash and the twenty-first century. “Their surprising results reveal fundamental qualities of this group that are diametrically opposed to today’s earn-and-consume culture.” —Library Journal
