Book Description
Marine Corps Warfighting Publication MCWP 4-12 Operational-Level Logistics 2 June 2016 Marine Corps Warfighting Publication (MCWP) 4-12, Operational-Level Logistics, provides the doctrinal basis for the design, planning, coordination, and execution of ground and aviation logistic support for Marine force operations at the operational level of war. It identifies the logistic authorities and support at the levels of the combatant commander and Marine Corps component command, and discusses the Service, agency, and joint enablers available to the operational-level planner. This publication describes the role of the Marine Corps component in relation to the combatant commander with regard to logistic operations. It expands on Marine Corps Doctrinal Publication 4, Logistics, and MCWP 4-1, Logistics Operations, and it complements MCWP 4-11, Tactical-Level Logistics. This publication has a dual purpose: to assist operational-level planners in aligning the design of their logistic concepts of operations with the policies and procedures of joint logistics and to provide operational-level planners with information about the operational-level logistic capabilities of the Marine Corps and other Services. This publication is intended for commanders and their staffs who are responsible for designing, planning, coordinating, and executing operational-level logistic support at the operational level of war. Audiences also include those Marine forces assigned to a Marine Corps component command as well as other Services or Department of Defense agencies who will benefit from a greater understanding of Marine Corps operational-level logistics. This publication supersedes MCWP 4-12, Operational-Level Logistics, dated 30 January 2002.

Book Description
Operational Logistics: The Art and Science of Sustaining Military Operations explores military logistics in terms of the theoretical foundations of operational logistics (OpLog) and its applications. The theoretical foundations are examined with regard to two dimensions. First, the artistic or qualitative aspects of contemporary logistics are looked at in the context of the operational level of war. These OpLog aspects include principles, imperatives and tenets, which are stated and analyzed. The second dimension relates to the scientific aspects of logistics. It is manifested by a formal network model that represents the structural and operational features of an OpLog system. Hence the book examines both artistic and scientific dimensions of military logistics and integrates the respective qualitative and quantitative aspects into a unified and definitive presentation of operational logistics. Chapter 1 presents a general introduction to military logistics. Chapter 2 discusses the general structure and characteristics of logistics and describes its three levels - strategic, operational and tactical. Chapter 3 focuses on Operational Logistics (OpLog). Chapter 4 deals with the logistics planning process. Chapter 5 addresses the issue of logistics information. Chapter 6 deals with forecasting logistics demands. Chapter 7 introduces the first version of the logistics network model. Chapter 8 addresses an important property of an OpLog system - Flexibility. Chapter 9 discusses two major (and dual) issues in OpLog practice: force accumulation and medical treatment and evacuation. Chapter 10 presents an inter-temporal network optimization model that is designed to determine deployment and employment of the support chain in an OpLog system.

Book Description
This publication is about winning in combat. Winning requires many things: excellence in techniques, an appreciation of the enemy, exemplary leadership, battlefield judgment, and focused combat power. Yet these factors by themselves do not ensure success in battle. Many armies, both winners and losers, have possessed many or all of these attributes. When we examine closely the differences between victor and vanquished, we draw one conclusion. Success went to the armies whose leaders, senior and junior, could best focus their efforts-their skills and their resources-toward a decisive end. Their success arose not merely from excellence in techniques, procedures, and material but from their leaders' abilities to uniquely and effectively combine them. Winning in combat depends upon tactical leaders who can think creatively and act decisively.
