Book Description
Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) is one of the most promising ways for the conversion of syngas to hydrocarbon products. Supported cobalt is the preferred catalyst for FTS due to its high selectivity to heavy hydrocarbons, low activity for water-gas-shift reaction and comparatively low price. Cobalt loaded SBA-15 catalysts were prepared by two different techniques including wetness impregnation and direct-synthesis methods. The characterization of the synthesized samples was done by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and N2 adsorption-desorption,. XRD measurements showed that the calcined cobalt catalyst did not modify the structure of SBA-15, proving that Co was present under the form of Co3O4 in the catalyst. The hexagonal structure of pores of SBA-15 was confirmed by SEM images for all samples.BET surface area showed that Co/SBA-15 catalyst prepared by direct synthesis method was produced high surface area and pore volume compared prepared by wetness impregnation method.

Book Description
The influence of promoter (Zn) and effect of cobalt loading on the physiochemical and catalytic properties of mesaporous silica Co/SBA-15 catalysts for the Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis was investigated. SBA-15 was synthesized as support. The mesoporous silica Co-Zn/SBA-15 catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation method. Cobalt nitrate and zinc nitrate were used as sources of metal that introduced onto support with same zinc loading (20 wt %) and different cobalt loading (5 wt %, 10 wt%, 15 wt %). The characterization of catalysts was performed by using Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results for FTIR were identification of Si-O-Zn and Si-O-Co functional group because of the present of zinc or cobalt onto silica SBA-15 support. Besides that, the identification of metal inside SBA-15 was determined by comparing the pure SBA-15 with the incorporated metal on SBA-15. For SEM analysis, the image shows that the rope like domain aggregated to wheat like microstructure. Incorporation of Co and Zn did not change the morphology of the support. For this research, the characterization of the catalyst by selecting Zn as promoter have quiet similar characterization with noble metal that already investigate.

Book Description
Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) is a part of gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology, which produces synthetic liquid hydrocarbons from natural gas. Recently the production of clean fuels and particularly of synthetic diesel by means of the FTS process has aroused renewed interest in both industrial and academic field. This process was shown to be catalyzed by certain transition metals, such as Co which present the highest activity. This research work is about the synthesis of SBA-15 and preparation of catalyst with different promoter Zr, Zn, Mn - Co based supported by SBA-15 by wet impregnation catalysts and characterizes all sampling. All materials were characterized by several physico-chemical techniques such as TGA, SEM and FTIR. The catalytic and characterization results show a great influence of mesoporous support porosity on the structure, reducibility and FTS catalytic behavior of cobalt oxide species supported over these ordered materials. After modification of SBA-15 by Co with different loading, the particles found to be attached closely with each other. The SEM picture shows a large number of SBA-15 particles attaching closely with one another. So this will make catalyst more efficient and effective during FT process. Then, using FTIR, the functional groups will be observed with certain wavelength in the samples such as cobalt oxides, Si-O-Si, Si-CH3, zinc oxide, OH band, Si-C, and others. Besides that, the identification of metal inside SBA-15 was determined by comparing the pure SBA-15 with the incorporated metal on SBA-15. For this research, the characterization of the catalyst by selecting Zn as promoter have quiet similar characterization with noble metal that already investigate.

Book Description
The purpose of this research is to compare the characterization of SBA-15 and TiO2 supported cobalt catalyst for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis based on effect of cobalt loading. In order to complete this research, the catalyst must be prepared by incipient wetness impregnation method. The catalysts were prepared with different cobalt loading, which are 5%, 10% and 15% and using zinc as a promoter. To characterize these catalysts, different methods were used. First of all, characterization of SBA-15 and TiO2 were compared by using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Then the catalysts were tested using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Through this characterization, the surface of catalysts was compared. The surface structure of Co/SBA-15 is more ordered when compared to Co/TiO2 catalyst. This is compared by the SEM image taken. Therefore, Co/TiO2 is also a good catalyst with advantages when compared to Co/SBA-15 catalyst. The conclusion of this research when comparing the characterization of Co/SBA-15 and TiO2 catalysts, is Co/SBA-15 catalyst is a good catalyst when compared to Co/TiO2 catalyst.

Book Description
This book is based on a symposium held during the 248th American Chemical Society meeting that focused on use of the Fischer-Tropsch process in producing synthetic fuels. Its contents reflect the four dominant subjects of the meeting: catalyst preparation and activation, catalyst activity and reaction mechanisms, catalyst characterization and related reactions, and topics concerning commercializing the Fischer-Tropsch process. It covers recent developments related to renewable resources and green energy and provides a glimpse of the commercial potential of the Fischer-Tropsch process in synthetic fuel production.

Book Description
The greenhouse effect is a process by which thermal radiation from a planetary surface is absorbed by atmospheric greenhouse gases, and is re-radiated in all directions. The increasing concentrations of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, where the major contribution comes from carbon dioxide (CO2). The result from a continued increase in CO2 concentration will cause major changes in global climate .Due to high concentration of CO2 in the environment, advanced oxidation process (AOP) was proposed. AOP is a process in which the oxidative capacity of a parent compound is modified to make oxidation-reduction reactions more rapid or complete. Due to the best properties that it can retain at high themperature and thermal stability SBA-15 has been chosen as catalysts. SBA-15 and Cu supported mesoporous siliceous SBA-15catalysts have been prepared by direct synthesis methods and wetness impregnation method, respectively and are systematically characterized. The characterizations of the synthesized samples were done using Fourier Transforms Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermal Gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The FTIR analysis shows that when SBA-15 was doped with copper, the % transmittance of the spectral had decreased. From the SEM analysis, the surface morphology of SBA-15 was changed from smooth to course and irregular structure due to existence of Cu in SBA-15. XRD measurement shows that the amorphous phase for pure SBA-15 was changed to crystalline phase when Cu was deposited into SBA-15 proving that Cu present in the SBA-15 structure. The TGA analysis shows that with existence of Cu in SBA-15, enhanced the thermal stability properties of catalysts. Thermo gravimetric analysis shows that the copper deposition on SBA-15 is stable up to a temperature of 515 °C and that the copper decomposes between 515 °C and 798 °C. The results of the FTIR, SEM, XRD and TGA testify completely that the Cu was incorporated into the framework sites of the SBA-15.
