The problems encountered in error diagnosis for computer assisted language learning (CALL) are presented in the introduction. Chapter 2 proposes a short history of natural language processing in CALL, as well as an overview of the state of the art in the domain of grammar checking. Chapter 3 describes three error diagnosis techniques in details: (i) constraint relaxation, (ii) phonological reinterpretation, and (iii) chunk reinterpretation, as well as the manner to combine theses techniques. Chapter 4 describes the syntactic parser used as a basis of the diagnosis system, how error categories to be diagnosed were selected, as well as the implementation of constraint relaxation and phonological reinterpretation. Chapter 5 presents the results of an evaluation of the system, including a comparison with a commercial checker. Chapter 6 concludes the dissertation.

La problématique du diagnostic d'erreurs de grammaire dans le cadre de l'enseignement des langues assisté par ordinateur (ELAO) est présentée dans l'introduction de la thèse. Le deuxième chapitre propose un historique du traitement automatique du langage naturel (TALN) en (ELAO) ainsi qu'une présentation de l'état de l'art des correcteurs grammaticaux. Le troisième chapitre décrit de manière théorique trois techniques de diagnostic : (i) le relâchement de contraintes, (ii) la réinterprétation phonétique, et (iii) la réinterprétation de morceaux d'analyse, ainsi que plusieurs manières de combiner ces différentes techniques.
