Book Description
Report providing a subjective assessment of the scope, applicability, and overall reliability of existing published references related to natural regeneration of white, Engelmann, and black spruce in North America and a synopsis of references on the subject. The references are listed alphabetically by author for each of 563 references, based on a dBASE IV database coded according to 105 keywords. The database allows the user to search geographically, by species of spruce, by forest section within Canada, or by any of the keywords listed. The emphasis is on white spruce in a boreal mixedwood setting but also includes information on natural regeneration of Engelmann spruce and upland black spruce, plus a limited amount of Norway spruce. Most of the references are from the 1990s.

Engelmann Spruce Regeneration Practices in the Rocky Mountains (Classic Reprint)
Author: Arthur Lawrence Roe
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780366781539
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 42
Book Description
Excerpt from Engelmann Spruce Regeneration Practices in the Rocky Mountains Results of attempts to establish spruce artificially on cutover areas have been variable. Planting has been successful in the northern Rockies on well-prepared sites. Attention to adequate site preparation and to the quality, care, and handling of planting stock have produced encouraging results in other areas. Direct seeding, however, has not been generally acceptable. To keep the land productive forest managers urgently need solutions to problems of natural and artificial regeneration. The purposes of this report are to (1) bring together in one place pertinent information, based on both experience and research, on spruce regeneration requirements and limitations and (2) provide some preliminary guides to aid the land manager in developing regeneration practices for restocking spruce stands. The information on spruce regeneration requirements and limitations - and therefore the guides - are necessarily broad in scope and preliminary in nature. We have attempted to put together a framework of experience and knowledge which will aid the land manager in developing more specific guides for his local situation and policy. Since natural regeneration in Engelmann spruce is less well understood than planting, we have placed greater emphasis on natural restocking. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Modelling Boreal Forest Succession at Broad Scales
Author: Dennis Yemshanov
Publisher: Sault Ste. Marie : Ontario Forest Research Institute
ISBN:
Category : Forest dynamics
Languages : en
Pages : 56
Book Description
This bibliography was produced to assist foresters and scientists interested in modelling boreal forest succession at broad scales. It contains more than 600 citations describing existing knowledge on succession in North American boreal forests, and the current state-of-knowledge in modelling succession, with particular emphasis on broad scales. References on succession in boreal forests are grouped by geographic and taxonomic categories. This bibliography also provides information on theories and concepts of succession modelling, issues of scale in modelling succession, the spatial process of propagule dispersal, and the probalistic modelling of forest succession. An author index is provided to help users located citations of interest.
