Pages : 58
Book Description
"The 57-page study presents data from a survey of 96 North American academic library directors, deans and university librarians about their current practices and plans for the print book collection. The study looks at the relative intentions to build the print book vs. the eBook collection, pinpointing the types of college and individuals most likely to build up one or the other, both or neither. Also, the report gives detailed data on the percentage of purchases sourced from Amazon, YBP, and Coutts. The study also presents detailed data on the percentage of overall sales accounted by discretionary books sales, and the percentage accounted for by standing orders. In an open ended question, survey participants discuss how they expect their print book purchasing policies to change over the next few years. In addition, the report relates mean, median, minimum and maximum levels of spending for the institutions sampled, with data for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years"--Publisher's website.

Rightsizing the Academic Library Collection
Author: Mary E. Miller
Publisher: American Library Association
ISBN: 0838992749
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 185
Book Description
Honored with many accolades, including a starred review in Library Journal, the first edition of this book demonstrated the power and flexibility of “rightsizing,” an approach that applies a scalable, rule-based strategy to help academic libraries balance stewardship of spaces and the collection. In the five years since Ward’s first edition, the shared print infrastructure has grown in leaps and bounds, as has coordination among programs. With this revision, Miller addresses new options as well as the increasing urgency to protect at-risk titles as you reduce your physical collection. Readers will feel confident rightsizing their institution’s own collections with this book’s expert guidance on the concept of rightsizing, a strategic and largely automated approach that uses continuous assessment to identify the no- and low-use materials in the collection, and its five core elements; crafting a rightsizing plan, from developing withdrawal criteria and creating discard lists to managing workflow and disposing of withdrawn materials, using a project-management focus; moving toward a “facilitated collection” with a mix of local, external, and collaborative services; six discussion areas for decisions on participating in a shared print program; factors in choosing a collection decision support tool; relationships with stakeholders; how to handle print resources after your library licenses perpetual access rights to the electronic equivalent; and future directions for rightsizing

Planning Optimal Library Spaces
Author: David R. Moore, II
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
ISBN: 1538109417
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 197
Book Description
Planning Optimal Library Spaces: Principles, Process, and Practices demystifies library space planning, inspires creative thinking, and offers immediate how-to steps to rectify seemingly hopeless situations. It describes an approach to library space planning that introduces and combines a phased implementation strategy with traditional space planning to allow library transformations and renovations to be done as a single project or a series of smaller, separate, and more manageable phased interventions. It allows libraries to meet current needs sooner, as smaller funding opportunities arise, instead of waiting on completely funded projects to develop. Chapters cover the approach, the importance of community engagement meetings, collection storage strategies, the anatomy of a library project budget, recommendations for getting started, and case studies of both public and academic library planning projects with detailed phasing strategies. Printed in full color with 148 images, this is a must-have book for librarians, architects, government/education administrators, and anyone involved with, or even thinking about a library planning or renovation project.
