The Relationship Between Nurses' Attitudes and Experiences with Advance Directives

Pages : 112
Book Description
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between nurses' attitudes toward and experiences with advance directives. The hypothesis stated that there will be a positive correlation in a group of nurses' attitudes toward and experiences with advance directives. The sample selected for this research consisted of 34 Registered Nurses. A total of 19 participants out of this group completed both the attitudinal and experience questionnaires that were used to correlate the relationship between the variables. Higher scores on the questionnaires indicated a more positive attitude and a more positive experience with advance directives. The Pearson r was used to analyze the findings. These findings indicated a strong statistical correlation with positive attitudes and positive experiences with advance directives. Therefore, the hypothesis was accepted. Recommendations for further study include further testing of the Attitudinal and Experience Questionnaires and using a larger sample size, at different sampling sites. In addition, studies that explore how institutions are educating health care professionals and patients in the use of advance directives are needed.
