The ether extract of Parmotrema sulphuratum contains vulpinic acid as the major componenet and atranorin as a minor componenent. Structural elucidation of both componenets was carried out by spectroscopic methods. Antimicrobial screening showed that vulpinic acid was active towards five types of bacteria.
