Investigation of the Influence of Defects in Thin Metallic Films on Their Optical and Electrical Properties
Author: Florian Abeles
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 29
Book Description
The influence of structural defects on the optical properties of thin vacuum-evaporated films of silver has been investigated. The technique of preparation and control of the annealing are described. The crystallographic structure of the films has been examined by transmission electron microscopy. The possibilities of further improving the structure of the films is discussed. The optical absorption is due to various mechanisms which were carefully separated: intraband and interband transitions and plasma oscillations. It was found that the optical mass mo of the conduction electrons is definitely smaller than unity (0.86

Encyclopedia of Interfacial Chemistry
Author:
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128098945
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 5276
Book Description
Encyclopedia of Interfacial Chemistry: Surface Science and Electrochemistry, Seven Volume Set summarizes current, fundamental knowledge of interfacial chemistry, bringing readers the latest developments in the field. As the chemical and physical properties and processes at solid and liquid interfaces are the scientific basis of so many technologies which enhance our lives and create new opportunities, its important to highlight how these technologies enable the design and optimization of functional materials for heterogeneous and electro-catalysts in food production, pollution control, energy conversion and storage, medical applications requiring biocompatibility, drug delivery, and more. This book provides an interdisciplinary view that lies at the intersection of these fields. Presents fundamental knowledge of interfacial chemistry, surface science and electrochemistry and provides cutting-edge research from academics and practitioners across various fields and global regions

STM Studies on the Growth and Structure of Thin Metallic Films on Metal Substrates
Author: R. J. Behm
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 4
Book Description
The structure and growth of thin, epitaxially grown metal films vapor-deposited on metallic substrates have been studied by a variety of integrating techniques over many years. on the theoretical side detailed predictions exist on both the structure and growth of these films, which were derived from considerations of the lattice mismatch between the respective materials and from their thermodynamical properties. The verification of these predictions, however, requires an exact knowledge of the local structure and the topography of these films which was accessible only indirectly from these data. Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) studies can provide direct information on these properties due to the local nature of the measurement which will be demonstrated in different examples.

Electronics Research Program. Investigation of Electronic Properties of Thin Films

ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 21
Book Description
The effects of a variety of parameters on the formation of metallic stearate films are discussed. Substrate cleaning techniques and the role of the spreading solvent are emphasized. A new method for the deposition of the initial organic monolayer is described; in many respects this method has proven superior to the original Langmuir-Blodgett technique. Reliable metaloxide tunneling junctions on the end of thin quartz rods were fabricated for configurations of the type Al-Al2O3-Mx. These junctions, used in studying the effect of microwave phonons on superconductive tunneling, proved difficult to make because of the small configurations required. Special techniques for handling these small structures are discussed. A new evaporator is described which will provide flexibility in fabricating thin film electronic devices. (Author).

Metal Based Thin Films for Electronics
Author: Klaus Wetzig
Publisher: Wiley-VCH
ISBN: 9783527406500
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This up-to-date handbook covers the main topics of preparation, characterization and properties of complex metal-based layer systems. The authors -- an outstanding group of researchers -- discuss advanced methods for structure, chemical and electronic state characterization with reference to the properties of thin functional layers. This second edition has been completely revised and updated to reflect the rapid progress taking place in the field, including, for example, investigations of the interface between barrier layer and dielectrics in metallization systems, spin-torque induced magnetic switching in spintronics, the development of new metallization technologies for migration-resistant SAW devices, and advancements in the nanoanalytics of thin functional layers. In addition, several new sections and chapters highlight new and timely research topics, with a whole chapter now devoted to photovoltaics. As such, the book addresses materials specialists in industry, especially in microelectronics, as well as scientists, while also recommended for advanced studies in materials science, analytics, surface and solid state science.
