Book Description
This volume describes engineering applications of the mechanics of deformable bodies and the elasticity theory relevant to them. It is concerned mainly with one-dimensional problems, which arise because either one of the dimensions of a body is much greater than the remaining two or the functions of two or three variables may be reduced to one variable.Problems of this type are of twofold importance. Firstly, many engineering problems can be described with sufficient accuracy just in this way. Secondly, unidimensional problems with known analytical solutions may serve either for testing numerical methods or for the analysis of fundamental concepts and phenomena, whose physical nature in three-dimensional approach might be obscured by the analytical-numerical aspect. The authors have confined themselves for the most part to the analysis of elastic behaviour of structures; however some attention is also given to elastic problems. A deterministic approach has been applied throughout the book. It will serve as a springboard for further work with stochastic approaches which are being increasingly used in engineering practice today.

Book Description
Structural Elements Design Manual is a manual on the practical design of structural elements that comprise a building structure, namely, timber, concrete, masonry, and steel. Practical guidance on the design of structural elements is provided in accordance with the appropriate British Standard or Code of Practice. Plenty of worked examples are included. Comprised of five chapters, this book begins with an overview of interrelated matters with which the structural engineer is concerned in the design of a building or similar structure. The British Standards and Codes of Practice are also considered, along with loading, structural mechanics, and theory of bending. The discussion then turns to timber, concrete, masonry, and steel elements, with emphasis on safety considerations and material properties. This monograph should prove useful not only to students of structural and civil engineering, but also to those studying for qualifications in architecture, building, and surveying who need to understand the design of structural elements.

Book Description
This third edition of a popular textbook is a concise single-volume introduction to the design of structural elements in concrete, steel, timber, masonry, and composites. It provides design principles and guidance in line with both British Standards and Eurocodes, current as of late 2007. Topics discussed include the philosophy of design, basic structural concepts, and material properties. After an introduction and overview of structural design, the book is conveniently divided into sections based on British Standards and Eurocodes.

Book Description
Indian Standard Code Of Practice Is-456 For The Design Of Main And Reinforced Concrete Was Revised In The Year 2000 To Incorporate Durability Criteria In The Design. As A Result Of It Many Codal Provisions Have Been Changed. Hence There Is Need To Train Engineering Students In Designing Reinforced Cement Concrete Structures As Per The Latest Code Of Is -456. With His Experience Of More Than 40 Years In Teaching, The Author Has Tried To Bring Out Students And Teachers Friendly Book On The Design Of Rcc Structures As Per Is-456: 2000.Rcc Design Is A Vast Subject. It Is Normally Taught In Two To Three Courses For Civil Engineering Students. This Book Is For The First Course In Rcc Design And Author Is Writing Another Book Advanced Rcc Design To Meet The Requirement Of Further Courses. This Book Deals With Design Philosophy And Design Of Various Structural Components Of Building. The Design Procedure Is Clearly Explained And Illustrated With Several Examples By Presenting The Solutions Step By Step In Details And With Neat Sketches Showing Reinforcement Details.

Book Description
Questions of size effect and scaling on the integrity of structures have been around since at least the time of Leonardo da Vinci. Bazant (civil engineering and materials science, Northwestern U.) sketches the history of size effect studies before exploring size effect on fracture and crack mechanics in a number of materials. He explores applications of the known size effect law for the measurement of material fracture properties and the modeling of the size effect by the cohesive crack model, nonlocal finite element models, and discrete element models. Applications to quasibrittle materials, including concrete, fiber composites, sea ice, rocks, and ceramics are presented. The role of size effect in some famous structural catastrophes is then examined. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.
