Book Description
A periodic surface is an assembly of identical elements arranged in a one or two-dimensional array. Such surfaces have various effects on incident electromagnetic waves. Their applications range from antennas to stealth aircraft. This book discusses finite antenna arrays and how to minimize the radar cross section of these arrays. "Ben has been the world-wide guru of this technology...Ben Munk has written a book that represents the epitomy of practical understanding." W. Bahret, United States Air Force Frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) have important military and civilian applications including antenna theory, satellite communications and stealth technology Author is an authory on the subject, having been instrumental in the development of stealth technology for the US Air Force Much of the material in this book was deemed classified due to its importance to defence

Book Description
Antennas represent a critical technology in any of these wireless systems. Not only do they directly affect the received power of the system, they are also typically the largest and most visible part. Recently, the need for low-cost, low-profile, and lightweight antenna in the frequency range of the microwave/millimeter wave/THz band has regained momentum. "Basic Principles of Fresnel Antenna Arrays" provides us a with the basics of the various Fresnel Antenna approaches, in order to achieve low-cost, low-profile, and lightweight antenna in the microwave/millimeter wave band. A potential solution of the antenna problem lies in using lens technology in an array. The Fresnel zone plate lens (FZPL) antenna is in particular an interesting candidate for the array element. The limiting focusing properties of FZPL including subwave length focus are described in detail. The book further presents a novel hexagonal FZPL antenna which can be more effectively packed in an array due to its shape. Before considering the hexagonal FZPL antenna in an array, the authors investigate two ideas, described as methods to potentially improve the radiation characteristics. The first idea is to change the reference phase of the Fresnel zone radii - a novel free parameter in the usual design of zone plate’s lenses and antennas. To further improve the radiation characteristics of the hexagonal FZPL antenna, a technique involving Fresnel zone rotation is investigated. The book is of interest for designers of optical systems because, taking scaling effects into account, the characteristics of diffractive quasioptical elements are valid for diffractive focusing elements of integrated optics.

Book Description
The author investigates the humor behind amateur radio, a hobby that has captivated numerous people throughout the world for almost a century. Contrary to popular belief, the hobby continues to grow as it develops and incorporates new technologies, including digital communications, computers, internet, satellites, and so on. While some are into building their own equipment, others are more focused on chasing faint signals in distant lands or competing for bragging rights in various contests. Most would gladly consider themselves as nerds for it takes a lot of dedication and knowledge to obtain a license and successfully operate a radio station. Among all the technical mumbo-jumbo, however, there is a lighter side, which is brought out in Hogwash for Hamsters. When we take ourselves less seriously, we become even better ambassadors to the world. So enjoy the limericks, songs, riddles, one liners, and stories. It might just make your day a little brighter.

Book Description
The contents of this book are mostly aimed at the amateur radio beginner and aspiring ones. Therefore, this book provides answers to basic questions like: What is the best HF antenna for my needs and location? What type of stand-alone antenna tuner should I use and which should I avoid? How can I hide my HF antenna from the neighbors and still get acceptable performance from it? What about lightning protection? This book will supply immediately useful answers to the above questions and many more. A properly designed and installed amateur radio HF antenna system can potentially make the humblest ham radio equipment perform like stations worth thousands of dollars. We are confident that the antenna experimenter will find the information given here priceless. Furthermore, any ham radio operator, armed with the information this book contains, will become a much better informed buyer of commercially made HF antenna systems and accessories. This special compendium edition is published in response to ham radio operators who wrote to ask that all the basic information, on and related to amateur radio HF antennas, be made available in one book instead of four, arguing that it would be more convenient. The author and publisher agree. Therefore this edition contains the complete four-book series on Amateur Radio HF Antennas published by Claude Jollet, VE2DPE.
