Book Description
Originally known as the National Pretrial Reporting Program, the State Court Processing Statistics (SCPS) program tracks felony cases filed in May of a given year until final disposition or until one year has elapsed from the date of filing. This collection presents data on felony cases filed in approximately 40 of the nation's 75 most populous counties in even numbered years from 1990-2004. These 75 counties account for more than a third of the United States population and approximately half of all reported crimes. The cases from these 40 jurisdictions are weighted to represent all felony filings during the month of May in the 75 most populous counties. Data were collected on arrest charges, demographic characteristics, criminal history, pretrial release and detention, adjudication, and sentencing.

Publisher: SAGE
ISBN: 1412991277
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 345
Book Description
Statistics for Criminal Justice is an introductory statistics text for undergraduate criminology and criminal justice majors. The topics and engaging presentation style are targeted to students who have a basic background in algebra but who have had little or no exposure to the study of statistics. The overarching goal for the book is to demonstrate to students both that statistics used in criminal justice can be enlightening and eye-opening and, secondly, that pre-conceived notions of their academic inadequacies coming into the course are false. The content includes coverage of the fundamental areas in statistics, beginning with descriptive statistics, moving into probability and ending with regression. Emphasis is placed on balancing thoroughness with ease of understanding in order to show students the importance and relevance of statistics.
