Coins: A List of Dates and Denominations Which Command a Premium, and Prices Paid for Same in Fine Condition The earliest coins were made by the Greeks over 700 years before the Christian era. Coins were first dated about 1560 A. D. The obverse of a coin is the face or principal side; the reverse is the opposite or back. Flowing hair is loose, flowing locks as in the cent of 1793; a fillet head has a band or hair ribbon as in the dime of 1796. Proofs are specially struck on polished planchets; Uncirculated means new, or bright, as just from the mint. In asking information always include two cent stamp for reply. In sending coins, stamps sufficient for their return should accompany them. This amount will be returned to sender if coins are pur chased.
