Book Description
Baby animals come in many different shapes and sizes, and many of those shapes and sizes are covered in spots or stripes. In Baby Animals Spots & Stripes, each turn of the page reveals a pair of adorable baby animals—one spotted and one striped. On the back cover of the book is a list of the animals featured (mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish). The book closes with a full-color illustration of babies playing with toy versions of each animal. This title is a companion to the best-selling Baby Animals Black and White. The bold black-and-white patterns stimulate eyesight and brain development in infants. The recognition and naming of familiar animals promotes speech development in older babies and infants.

Book Description
Benoit provides a comprehensive analysis of presidential television spots from every campaign that used this important message form, from the 1952 campaign through the last national campaign in 1996. More than 1,600 presidential spots are analyzed, from both primary and general campaigns. Republican, Democratic, and third party candidate advertisements are analyzed. He uses the Functional Theory of Political Campaign Discourse, analyzing themes in spots as acclaims (self-praise), attacks (criticism), and defenses (responses to attacks). Themes are classified according to topic. Each of these topics is broken down further (policy: past deeds, future plans, general goals; character: personal qualities, leadership ability, ideals). Contrasts are made between spots from Republicans and Democrats as well as third parties, incumbents and challengers, and winners and losers. The spots from candidates who led, trailed, or were in close races also are contrasted. Spots are becoming more negative over time, Benoit concludes, in both primary and general campaigns. General campaigns are more negative than primary campaigns, Democrats are more negative than Republicans, and challengers are more negative than incumbents. There are no differences between winners and losers. However, candidates who trailed throughout the campaign were most negative, while candidates in close races were most positive. An important analysis for scholars and researchers in political communication and American presidential politics.

Book Description
Here, Cambre and Hawkes offer a framework for thinking about technology as it impacts teaching and learning today. Toys, Tools & Teachers takes a hard look at the benefits and the trade-offs of a technology-saturated education. The authors look at technology through a trifocal lens: as teaching aid, as a threat, and as progress. They also explore ways in which technology can significantly impact education-through distance learning, networking, and wireless technologies. This book is a reflection on technology and a review of the footprint of technology on children's toys and the tools teachers and students have available for teaching and learning. As today's students are bombarded with things technological, school administrators and teachers are challenged on a daily basis to acquire up-to-date technologies and use them wisely in the teaching, learning, and testing process. Educators and parents are urged to discern the positive and negative effects of technology and make appropriate choices for their charges. Researchers are challenged to devise strategies for demonstrating the effectiveness of technology and for pointing the way to better methods of integrating technology so that no child is left behind. Will be of interest to parents, school board members, and educators.
