Book Description
“Splintered Dreams, Blades of Truth, Shafts of Sunlight” is an autobiography in poetry, not an autobiography of dates, events, and achievements, but of the inner life – an autobiography of the soul. Throughout all the vicissitudes of life, Dr. Enriqueta Cartagena Mayuga’s hopes remain constant: “there is no such thing as a nullified life, no such thing as charred hope...” This volume follows in timely fashion the admonition of Horace in his Art of Poetry. It suits Dr. Mayuga’s genius well. This book is a poetic account of one woman which resonates with the thoughts and feelings of women and men of our common humanity. This volume, in my mind, surpasses her earlier works." Rev. Charles D. Skok, S.T.D. Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies Gonzaga University

Book Description
Landscape of a Challenged Life is the fifth book authored by Dr. Enriqueta c. Mayuga. She started writing at the age of 60. With her fourth book, "Splintered Dreams, Blades of Truth, Shafts of Sunlight," and her fifth book, "Landscape of a Challenge Life" garnering Honorable Mention in the Southwest Festival of Authors competition in 2012. The book defines the author as a woman who left her homeland to find a country and later settles the argument between love of homeland and loyalty to one's country: "In the end- a country is my country when it opens its vistas; a home is my home where I am nurtured and welcomed- and as for me, I chose America.'' She paints her narratives as a Philippine lass' who arrives in an uncertain world where she reflects her medical career and shares a woman's soul painted on a canvas of everyday life. Landscape of a Challenged Life begins with exultation and exhilaration, humiliation and degradation with experiences as a newly arrived immigrant before civil rights was in place. It is both poetry and prose an anthology. It ends up with an epitaph to an authentic life, sublime in its simplicity. It tells the realities of life and accepts them as the realities of her life. It illustrates the sensitivity of a woman who cares and who loves whether she is praised or belittled. It is a word of truth about the reality of life lived to the fullest in the world as it is, not as it should be. The anthology is with sketches and prints Included for visual enhancement to vivify her message and as she mentions, "Our lives are both rain-drenched and sun-drenched and each of us is capable of dipping into the forbidden prisms and tunnels of this cluttered universe."

Book Description
This book is more like a valedictory, a denouement. It reflects the morphing and deepening of discernment as one realizes that life indeed can be viewed from multiple prisms. Fiery and passionate at twenty-sixshe is lively and circumspect at seventy-eight. Father Charles Skok, a well-known theologian and philosopher, sums it up: The sharper edge of some of Dr. Mayugas writing is now moderated by her acceptance of the reality of getting old and the ensuing wisdom. The depth of feeling is still there, but there is a tinge of mellowness. Enriqueta Mayuga writes in her introduction: The discernment of a woman past her prime differs from that of an infuriated, aggrieved, and maligned youthful idealist. Over half century ago, she came to America a foreign, ethnic, female medical physician immersed in a society laden with xenophobia. Today, at seventy-eight, she simply views life through the generational lens of a speckled prism, but always with some reservations. Book Description
A Distant Dream by Levi Kaufman, a historical novel, is set against the vivid backdrop of Medieval Europe and the religious hostility that was its hallmark. In the year 1290, England's twelve thousand Jews became the continent's first community to face expulsion. Despite oppressive and unfair taxes and restrictive living conditions, the Jews had somehow managed to survive and even prosper. Now they were to be forced to abandon their homes and belongings. Where should the uprooted families go? Would any other Christian nations welcome them? Would they be allowed to remain in any one place for more than a few years? Perhaps some tired and idealistic English Jew dreamed of breaking away from Europe and the ever-deepening anguish of his exiled people. Perhaps he spoke to others around him and, together, they make plans. Perhaps there were some who dared to set out for some new land where they could live their lives as Jews. Where they could live undisturbed by the outside world...Marbitz Media
