The next day Hayne made a bitter rejoinder, which was not completed, owing to an adjournment of the Senate, until the following Monday, the asth. The hour was late when Webster rose to reply, and a motion for adjournment prevailed. Upon the succeed ing day, Tuesday, January a6th, the debate was resumed, amid circumstances of extreme excitement.
