The soil map is prepared by trained men, who go over a county thoroughly, and examine the soil by making a sufficient number of boring to a depth of 36 inches to keep account of all variations. A report is also made, to accompany and explain the map, and this is based upon a careful study of the soils within the region surveyed, and upon such other features as have a direct bearing upon the agriculture of the area.
