Book Description
To the passer-by, Mel seemed like an ordinary teenager growing up in a middle-class suburban family in Sydney, Australia; but to those who wanted to get to know her, they could see she was hiding from the truth. Mel had encountered more than most had experienced in a lifetime before she had reached 17. She yearned for freedom, yet what prevailed were threats, abuse and being trapped in an underworld of shame. With all her might, she tried not to give in to the loneliness that stalked her and the fear that plagued her, whilst sleeping under the bridge. Can she reveal her secrets before it's too late? This gripping brave true story speaks into adults from all walks of life from children that have gone through sexual, physical and emotional abuse and how that affected their internal rhythm. Nothing could hold Mel together other than her determination to search for the true meaning of life itself.

Jessee's mom died, and this makes her dad a bit over-protective. He requires her to get up early and go to the farm with him. He refuses to allow her to stay home alone. Buford's dad plans on him working on the farm during the summer, not going on a dig with Jessee. Jessee and Buford are convinced that summer is for sleeping late and having fun. Now, they just have to get their parents to believe that too.

Book Description
This book explores the inner lives of homeless people, who often feel invisible. It explores their perceptions of how they came to be where they are. The book also details how a young woman, after meeting many of these people, changes her perceptions. Although she originally felt superior to homeless people, she learned that it could happen in her own family. Although names and places are fiction, the narratives are based on stories told to volunteers at shelters and on the street by men and women, some of whom were veterans, with no place to go. The largest homeless group consists of children. We hear stories of heroism and cowardice, laziness and ambition, spouse abuse and child abuse and stories of adults sacrificing everything to save a child. The homeless are not homogenous. Each story is different and each individual is unique.

Book Description
Meredita and her family's life story represents that of the many families the author has known at Quirino Aveneu Bridge and in other places in Manila. Affected by their untiring, endless attempts to get out of poverty or deal with it to survive, the author tried to capture all these details from what Mercedita's family chose to share over the years. The interaction was based on a relationship shaped by events an NGO volunteer organized in the community, like a street library and monthly fora. This book takes the position that the poorest are first and foremost human beings, essential partners in the fight against poverty more than they are problems to be solved.

Book Description
This is part one of the autobiography of Pamela Jean Heyman, a Kentish girl who grew up in the period before, during and after the Second World War and went on to migrate to Nigeria in search of interest and excitement. It covers the period from her birth in 1931 to the eve of her departure for Africa in 1956. Most of the story is set in and around Throwley, Ashford and Maidstone in the 1930s and 40s. The author, Jean, was born on her maternal Grandparents farm. Her Father left soon after the birth of her little brother. He remarried, and Jeans Mother moved to Maidstone where she took up a career in hairdressing, leaving Jean and her brother in the care of Grandma and Grandad and Auntie Kalla. In the tale that unfolds the old couple and their second daughter represents fortitude and loving stability, whereas Jeans Mother, on her frequent visits, represents glamour, laughter and colour. By the end of the 1930s Jeans Grandparents had to give up the farm due to ill health. Jean and her Brother went to live with their Mother and her new Husband and their half-Sister, Maureen. This period coincides with the outbreak of war and the beginning of its privations. The Authors life story serves as an evocative account of how country people lived in those days and how (not withstanding the trials and tribulations brought about by her Mothers third marriage), during and after the war she worked hard to improve her secretarial skills which enabled her to eventually obtain a position in the Federal Government of Nigeria in Lagos. Part two will recount this period.

Book Description
From an early age, Joann often wished she had been born into a different family. Witnessing the physical abuse that their mother had to endure at the hands of their father, she and her siblings lived in constant fear of his violent temper and unpredictable mood swings throughout their childhood. Their mother finally files for a divorce, only to remarry a deputy sheriff with dark intentions set on Joann. Already emotionally and psychologically scarred for life, Joann becomes involved in an unhealthy relationship with a possessive, physically abusive boyfriend. She later leaves him for the man she eventually marries, one who causes her further heartache and emotional turmoil. After a failed suicide attempt, Joann learns to put her own needs before those of others, to be “selfish” for once in her life, and to come to terms with her codependency. She begins to rebuild her faith and her relationship with God, and only then does she find a clear pathway to recovery.
