Book Description
I have tried many things in my working years: steel worker, sweeper sales, campground owner, auto salvage yard operator, owner of an air compressor sales and service company, and owner of a miscellaneous metals center. I retired and sold everything. A year into retirement I volunteered to help with a project at church and found myself agreeing to take on the church maintenance, which lasted for four years. I have always had a more than passing interest in the arts. Over the years I've worked with wood, copper, iron, steel, and in my spare time I painted, mostly outdoor scenes with acrylics. Then I discovered glass etching. In my early years, the everyday work of providing for and raising a family didn't leave a lot of time for serious commitment to my artworks, but since my second retirement I have been able to fl y. I've etched sixteen windows for St. Anthony Catholic Church, Brooksville, FL; ten windows for The Florida Medical Center, Springhill, FL; six doors for St. Thomas Catholic Church, Homosassa, FL. I have works in restaurants, attorney's offi ces and many homes including that of Architect Hal Lenox. Publisher: Crown
ISBN: 0307406865
Category : Pets
Languages : en
Pages : 258
Book Description
A heartwarming story of a couple and their horse exploring what caring for a horse can teach us about companionship—whether it’s with a four-legged friend or a fellow human. A surprise birthday gift plunged Joe and his wife, Kathleen, into the world of horses as complete neophytes without a clue as to what a horse needed or wanted. They searched for logic and sense in the rule books of traditional horse care. What they found was not what they had expected. Written for everyone who has ever loved a horse or ever loved the idea of loving a horse, this memoir leads us on a voyage of discovery as Joe and Kathleen navigate uncharted territory on their way to achieving a true relationship with their horses. Joe Camp’s inspiring book unlocks the mystery of a majestic creature who has survived on earth, without assistance, for fifty-five million years and teaches us that the lessons he learned apply not only to horses but also to our relationships with people.

Pages : 612
Book Description
Both a memoir and a travel book, Mark Twain recalls his days as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River before the American Civil War, and then many years after, recounts a trip as passenger along the Mississippi River from St. Louis to New Orleans. The book begins with a brief history of the river as reported by Europeans and Americans, beginning with the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, continues with Twain's anecdotes of his training as a steamboat pilot, as the 'cub' (apprentice) of an experienced pilot, and the science of navigating the ever-changing Mississippi River. On the later trip downriver, despite of improvements in navigation and boat construction, the time of the steamboat is passing. There is competition from railroads, and as he describes new, large cities, and he adds observations on greed, gullibility, tragedy, and bad architecture.
