Book Description
This database provides a vast amount of information about potentially toxic chemicals to regulatory and research agencies, consultants, academics, and libraries. The National Toxicology Program's Chemical Database consists of eight volumes containing 50 fields that present detailed information on 2,270 different chemicals. The data is obtained from the literature or experimentally determined. Each compound is listed in every volume even when there is no information available for it in some volumes. Information in the NTP database was gathered and updated as compounds were used throughout a 12 year period from 1979 to 1991. Throughout the eight volumes, the primary chemical name and the Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Number (CAS No.) remain constant and all 2,270 chemicals are listed alphabetically in each volume. The NTP database can be sold as a set or individually. Each volume consists of one 3-1/2" and two 5-1/4" diskettes , in addition to a 64 page manual that describes how to use the software. Diskettes will run on IBM® or IBM-compatible equipment with DOS 2.0 and higher, 640K internal memory (RAM), and a hard drive with at least 2-17MB of available disk space. Use the eight volumes together to get the full benefit of the NTP Chemical Repository Database, or select only those volumes that contain the information you need and use them as stand-alone databases. Each volume consists of one 3-1/2" and two 5-1/4" diskettes, that will run on IBM or IBM-compatible hardware!

Book Description
This handbook is the first to address the practical aspects of this novel method. It provides a complete overview of the field and progresses from general considerations to real life scenarios in drug discovery research. Starting with an introductory historical overview, the authors move on to discuss ligand-based approaches, including 3D pharmacophores and 4D QSAR, as well as the concept and application of pseudoreceptors. The next section on structure-based approaches includes pharmcophores from ligand-protein complexes, FLIP and 3D protein-ligand binding interactions. The whole is rounded off with a complete section devoted to applications and examples, including modeling of ADME properties. With its critical evaluation of pharmacophore-based strategies, this book represents a valuable aid for project leaders and decision-makers in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as pharmacologists, and medicinal and chemists.

Book Description
A comprehensive look at current drug discovery and development methods—and the roadmap for the future Providing both understanding and guidance in characterizing potential drugs and their production and synthesis, Development of Therapeutic Agents Handbook gives professionals a basic tool to facilitate research and development within this challenging process. This comprehensive text brings together, in one resource, a compendium of concepts, approaches, methodologies, and limitations that need to be considered in the formulation of therapeutic agents across a range of therapeutic fields. Both a reference and a call to action for the pharmaceutical industry, Development of Therapeutic Agents Handbook examines recent innovations taking shape in the various medical disciplines involved in drug discovery, and shows why these advances need to be embraced universally among researchers to improve their solution strategies. Additional subject matter includes: Extensive coverage and in-depth look into novel treatments and therapeutics Discussion of hot topics like new drugs and nutraceuticals, the discovery and development of vaccines, cancer therapeutics, and market overviews Coverage of therapeutic drug development for specific disease areas, such as cardiology, oncology, breast cancer, and kidney diseases As research in biology, chemistry, medicine, and technology rapidly progresses, it is becoming increasingly important for medical researchers to maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of emerging trends directing promising new therapies. Development of Therapeutic Agents Handbook serves this purpose, acting as both a one-stop reference rich in valid science, and a tool to carve out new pathways in the pursuit of bringing safer and more effective drugs to the marketplace.

Book Description
Every chemical research project begins with a thorough and expedient search of the chemical literature. As the size and complexity of the chemical literature continues to grow at an outstanding rate, the chemist is continuously confronted with the task of wading through a mountain of information, that may elude even the most versed computer searcher. The LIBRARY HANDBOOK FOR ORGANIC CHEMISTS is designed to direct the researcher to the most appropriate references and to streamline, organize and optimize the process of searching the chemical literature. While directing the researcher to all appropriate literature resources, this handbook also provides a thorough understanding of the organization of the information contained. As each section is designed for quick assimilation of the information necessary to locate a reference, researchers do not have to read the entire book or even a complete section to understand and search the chemical literature. This handbook leads the infrequent searcher stepwise through the literature to the answer to a search. For those conducting computer searches, it will help in selecting the appropriate database and it will also aid in searching commands. As for the experienced librarian, this handbook will become the source to check in order to ensure that all the basis have been covered.
