Book Description
An unprecedented guide to user experience (UX) analytics, this book closes a mission-critical skill gap and enables business professionals in a digital-first world to make smart, effective, and quick decisions based on experience analytics. Despite two decades of web metrics, customer experience has largely remained a black box. UX analytics tools help businesses to see themselves and their customers with a new lens, but decision-makers have had to depend on skilled analysts to interpret data from these tools, causing delays and confusion. No more: this book shows a wide range of professionals how to use UX analytics to improve the customer experience and increase revenue, and teaches the C-SUITE method for applying UX analytics to any digital optimization challenge. It provides 50 case studies and 30 cheat sheets to make this a daily reference, and includes ten mindmaps, one for each role discussed, from senior leaders to product managers to e-commerce specialists. Managers across industries will regularly consult this book to help them guide their teams, and entry- to mid-level professionals in marketing, e-commerce, sales, product management, and more will turn to these pages to improve their websites and apps.

Book Description
This edition marks the tenth Middleware conference. The ?rst conference was held in the Lake District of England in 1998, and its genesis re?ected a growing realization that middleware systems were a unique breed of distributed system requiring their own rigorous research and evaluation. Distributed systems had been around for decades, and the Middleware conference itself resulted from the combination of three previous conferences. But the attempt to build common platforms for many di?erent applications requireda unique combinationofhi- level abstraction and low-level optimization, and presented challenges di?erent from building a monolithic distributed system. Since that ?rst conference, the notion of what constitutes “middleware” has changed somewhat, and the focus of research papers has changed with it. The ?rst edition focused heavily on distributed objects as a metaphor for building systems, including six papers with “CORBA” or “ORB” in the title. In f- lowing years, the conference broadened to cover publish/subscribe messaging, peer-to-peer systems, distributed databases, Web services, and automated m- agement, among other topics. Innovative techniques and architectures surfaced in workshops, and expanded to become themes of the main conference, while changes in the industry and advances in other research areas helped to shape research agendas. This tenth edition includes papers on next-generation pl- forms (such as stream systems, pervasive systems and cloud systems), managing enterprise data centers, and platforms for building other platforms, among o- ers.

Book Description
Leverage leadership knowledge to make better software architecture decisions. Think deeply but implement slowly. The overarching goal of software systems (hence, for software architecture) is to build systems that meet quality standards and that provide the highest return on investment (ROI) in the long run or within a defined period of time. A great product requires a combination of technology, leadership, and product management (including UX). Leadership is primarily about managing uncertainty and making the right judgment. To build great products, technical leaders need to combine technology, leadership, and product management knowledge, and make the right decisions. Many technical mistakes come from the gap between knowledge about these three items and judgment. In Software Architecture and Decision-Making, Srinath Perera explains principles and concepts that software architects must understand deeply and how to employ those principles to manage uncertainty. The questions and principles discussed in this book help manage uncertainty while building software architecture and provide a framework for making decisions. This book is for all technical leaders in the software industry who make holistic judgments about the systems they build and for future leaders learning the craft. Understand the importance of strong decision making with examples from great technical leaders such as the Wright brothers and Kelly Johnson Leverage five key questions and seven important principles to understand uncertainties during the design process and make strategic architectural decisions Approach the design systematically, first at the macro level and then the individual service level This definitive guide explains principles and concepts--technical and non-technical alike--that software architects, senior software engineers, and technical leads must understand to manage the inevitable uncertainty involved in building software systems and to drive success of the products for which they are responsible. Book Description
Annotation This is Vol 3 of the Handbook of Industrial Organization series (HIO). Vols 1 & 2 published simultaneously in 1989 under the editorship of Richard Schmalensee and Robert Willig. Many of the chapters in these successful volumes were widely cited and appeared on graduate reading lists, and some continue to appear even recently. Since the first volumes published, the field of industrial organization has continued to evolve. As the editors acknowledge in the Preface, these volumes had some gaps and this new volume aims to fill some of those gaps. The aim is to serve as a source, reference and teaching supplement for industrial organization, or industrial economics, the microeconomics field that focuses on business behavior and its implications for both market structures and processes, and for related public policies. The first two volumes of the HIO appeared at roughly the same time as Jean Tirole's book The Theory of Industrial Organization. Together they helped revolutionize the teaching of industrial organization, and provided a state-of-the-art summary. Tirole's book is concerned with the relevant theory, and several reviewers noted that the first two volumes of HIO contained much more discussion of the theoretical literature than of the empirical literature. In most respects, this imbalance was an accurate reflection of the field. Since then, the empirical literature has flourished, while the theoretical literature has continued to grow, and this new volume reflects that change of emphasis. *Part of the renown Handbooks in Economics series *Chapters are contributed by some of the leading experts in their fields. *A source, reference and teaching supplement for industrial organizations, or industrial economicists.
