Preliminary Study Into Shell Mold Casting of Nominal 60-Nitinol Alloy
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 28
Book Description
The present study was initiated to determine the feasibility of shell mold casting nominal 60-Nitinol into suitable EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) tools. Pr Primary emphasis was directed to alloy-mold interaction, effects of graphite mold coating, shrinkage and porosity problems, alloy fluidity, surface finish and definition and property response of cast alloy. Based upon the results, 60-Nitinol appears quite suited to shell molding and a casting approach, provided the alloy melting and casting are conducted in a vacuum or controlled inert atmosphere. The major area of possible future concern lies in the casting porosity associated with the relatively large liquid-to-solid shrinkage of nominal 60-Nitinol.
