Classical Electrodynamics
Author: T. Tsang
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9789810230418
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 428
Book Description
This is a comprehensive and ?user-friendly? textbook for a two-semester graduate level course in physics and electrical engineering. Many applications are given in the text. Over two hundred problems are also given. Problem solving by simple and direct approaches (with detailed calculations) are included, and hints are provided to solve the more difficult problems. Approaches to choosing suitable diagrams, coordinating systems and to symmetry requirements are discussed. Mathematical reviews are also given, with emphasis on intuition and fundamentals.

Boundary Element Methods in Engineering
Author: Balkrishna S. Annigeri
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642842380
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 596
Book Description
The Boundary Element Method (BEM) has become established as an effective tool for the solutions of problems in engineering science. The salient features of the BEM have been well documented in the open literature and therefore will not be elaborated here. The BEM research has progressed rapidly, especially in the past decade and continues to evolve worldwide. This Symposium was organized to provide an international forum for presentation of current research in BEM for linear and nonlinear problems in solid and fluid mechanics and related areas. To this end, papers on the following topics were included: rotary wing aerodynamics, unsteady aerodynamics, design and optimization, elasticity, elasto dynamics and elastoplasticity, fracture mechanics, acoustics, diffusion and wave motion, thermal analysis, mathematical aspects and boundary/finite element coupled methods. A special session was devoted to parallel/vector supercomputing with emphasis on mas sive parallelism. This Symposium was sponsored by United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) , NASA Langley Research Center, and the International Association of Boundary Ele ment Methods (lAB EM) . We thank the UTRC management for their permission to host this Symposium. In particular, we thank Dr. Arthur S. Kesten and Mr. Robert E. Olson for their encouragement and support. We gratefully acknowledge the support of Dr. E. Carson Yates, Jr. of NASA Langley, Prof. Luigi Morino, Dr. Thomas A.

Forensic Polymer Engineering
Author: Peter Rhys Lewis
Publisher: Woodhead Publishing
ISBN: 0081007280
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 430
Book Description
Forensic Polymer Engineering: Why Polymer Products Fail in Service, Second Edition presents and explains the latest forensic engineering techniques used in the investigation of failed polymer materials that are illustrated with a very large number of detailed case studies which show the different types of failure and the forensic engineering techniques used in their investigation. In this updated edition, new case studies have been added to include patent disputes and failed products such as spiral wound wall storage tanks, lithium battery explosions, water bottle failures, and breast implant failures (such as the PIP scandal). New images demonstrating failure have been included, and images from the previous edition are reproduced in color and enhanced with additional explanatory detail. With a dedicated focus on polymeric materials, the book includes details on the experimental techniques that are used to characterize the materials, particularly in cases of failure. Finally, the book has information on the fabrication of polymer devices, as manufacturing flaws often play a role in failure. - Demonstrates the latest forensic engineering techniques used in the investigation of failed polymer components - Presents detailed case studies that illustrate different types of failure in polymer components, fittings, and medical devices - Examines the role of manufacturing in product failure with an overview of faults recognized in methods, design, and material selection - Provides an integrated approach to polymer failures that covers everything from basic materials properties, through to the experimental techniques required to study them
