Book Description
Excerpt from Shakespeare's Tragedy of Julius Caesar: Edited, With Notes Minor Changes have been made throughout the Notes. Some have been condensed, some have been expanded, and new ones have been added here and there. All references to my editions of other plays have been omitted, their place being supplied by independent notes. Though no radical Changes have been made in the original plan, the present edition is substantially a new book, and many teachers will, I think, prefer it to the old one. Both, however, can be used, without serious inconvenience, in the same class or Club. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Tragedy of Julius Caesar 171, or the dash that I have put at the end of IV. Iii. 5. Other alterations in the generally accepted text, that I have pointed out as possible, but not ventured to introduce into the text of this edition, will be found suggested in the notes on 1. Iii. 65, II. I. 83, ii. 46, iv. 18, III. I. 39, ii. I 18, and IV. Iii. 240. The only passage, as far as I know, to which, without departing from the usual reading, I have given an entirely new interpretation is III. I. I74, I 75. Few notes on the scansion of par ticular lines will be found in the following pages. Shakespeare's metre is a large subject, which requires general treatment with reference to all the plays. The commentary on any individual play would be over burdened, if an attempt were made to examine all the metrical irregularities that occur in it. The notes in this edition are mostly explanatory, and even with this. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Marcus Brutus, a Roman politician, considers Emperor Julius Caesar to be a friend, but a senator—Caius Cassius—convinces Brutus that Caesar has too much power. Brutus would rather Rome be a republic than an empire ruled by a tyrant, so he participates in a conspiracy to kill Caesar. Though Brutus believes his actions will benefit Rome, Caesar's murder brings about more bloodshed, including Brutus's own. The play examines friendship and patriotism, the succession of leadership, and the roles of fate and free will. Shakespeare wrote this drama, rooted in Roman history, in 1599; it was published in 1623, after Shakespeare's death. This is an unabridged edition of the tragic play.

Book Description
Excerpt from Julius Caesar (Shakespeare) The high school teachers who have prepared these guides have had years of experience with the mind that is confronted with a great literary work for the first time. They have given just such information and suggestive guidance as will enable the student fully to understand and enjoy the masterpiece, without being lost in a mass of irrelevant and dry discussion. They have arranged their material so as to make it possible for the student, if necessary, to pursue his work independently, whether his aim be the preparation for an examination or the furthering of his general culture. Julius Caesar has led Rome successfully in the war against Pompey and returns celebrated and beloved by the people. Yet in the senate fears intensify that his power may become supreme and threaten the welfare of the republic. A plot for his murder is hatched by Caius Cassius who persuades Marcus Brutus to support him. Though Brutus has doubts, he joins Cassius and helps organize a group of conspirators that assassinate Caesar on the Ides of March. But, what is the cost to a nation now erupting into civil war? A fascinating study of political power, the consequences of actions, the meaning of loyalty and the false motives that guide the actions of men, Julius Caesar is action packed theater at its finest.

Book Description
Excerpt from In a Recital of Shakespeare's Historical Tragedy, "Julius Caesar" I could not get to even one of your recitals. The hour was one at which it was impossible for me to get off from professional duties. I sent tickets to my friends, many of whom went, and from several of them I have had expressions of great pleasure and satisfaction. Mr. Alfred ayres, author of The Orthoepist, The Verbalist, etc, in the New York Dramatic Mirror: Hannibal A. Williams, who on Saturday last completed a short course of Shakespearian readings, is the most pleasing reader of Shakespeare we have seen on the platform for some years. Mr. Williams is thor oughly legitimate in his methods and while he is never guilty of over-doing, on the other hand, his nice sense of the proper ne'ver allows him to degenerate into the commonplace. He was frequently applauded by his large and very fashionable audiences, but what is better evidence that he pleased is the fact that it was rarely that any of his auditors left till the last line was spoken. He has but to become better known to be the fashion with the frequenters of afternoon recitals. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
